The picture in his hands was years old, as was the constant pang of sorrow he felt when he saw it. Still, he kept it on his mantle, right in plain sight.

Because time had dulled the pain so much that it was now only a melancholy ghost of the twisting knife it had once been.

Sighing to himself, Daniel sat the picture of his late wife Sha're back in its place.

She was now but a memory to him. A very pleasant memory that would stay with him until his dying day and beyond, but now a simple remembrance just the same. She could have a place in his heart still, but another would fill the void her death had left.

There had been a time when Sha're had been the only thing on Daniel Jackson's mind. A long time. From the time the time he first saw her until months after her death. That entire length of time, she was the only thing he ever thought of.
