He paused by the door, wondering if it was physically possible to go any further. Mustering up all the strength he had left in him, he slowly walked through the door and made his way down the long aisle of people to the heavy wooden coffin resting on a table.
People stared at him sadly knowing what he had been to her. Xander finally reached his destination and his hands grasped the table to hold him up. His eyes looked down and he saw her lying there as if she were asleep. Without thinking, his hand took hold of her non-moving ones, and before he knew it, tears were flowing freely down his cheeks and onto hers.
"Oh God Will…why did this have to happen to you? You of all people. I know I'm supposed to say goodbye to you now, but there's just no way I could do that. I could never in a million years say goodbye to you. I know I'm supposed to move on with my life, but there's just no way I can go on in life without you by my side. I can't believe you're actually gone. They've taken the one thing I need in life away."
Xander's face made a look of disgust. "How could I have let this happen?" Oh God Willow. I love you so much, I would give anything to have you back in my arms again."
He took his hands and felt her soft hair between his fingers. He knelt down beside her and wiped his tears off of her pale cheeks. "I don't know what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I don't really believe it's worth living if you're not here with me to share it with. I just came here today to tell you that I'm sorry for everything I ever did to hurt you, and I'm sorry I couldn't stop you from getting killed. Will, if you can hear me, I want you to know that I still love you, and I will never, ever stop loving you…nothing will ever change that."
Xander choked back a sob and shakily got to his feet. He bent down and softly kissed her lips. He took her hand and stared at the fairly new wedding ring on her index finger and tears welled up again in his eyes. He touched the ring, and then put her hand down again.
"I'll see you later Willow."
He turned and ran to the exit at the back of the church, avoiding all of the stares directed at him, and pushed his way through the double doors.
