Hope
Sadness, an overwhelming sense of sadness emanates from deep within my soul. My entire body feels heavy as I lean over my mother's hospital bed clutching her soft and gentle hand. Tears begin to flow down my cheeks dripping on her sheets. "M-mom? Mom please, don't leave me; you can't… not now, not yet… we've come so far, we've seen so many incredible things… I can't lose you now… I need you!" I wail. She shakily brings her unobstructed hand up to my face wiping away the hair and tears from my eyes, I feel her trembling attempts of comfort trying to console me making me want to smack her hand away which makes me cry even harder. "Kairi… Please… Don't Cry…" She weakly whispers beginning to cry herself, " Remember your promise… No matter what happens, no matter where life takes you, you cannot lose hope…" " Don't… Lose… Hope…" Her hand becomes slightly heavier and more relaxed in mine, her expression is horrifyingly blank. A flat line appears on the monitor next to her bed followed by a chilling monotone beep. Her heart didn't even race, not a single spike in her heart rate went up. She lost hope a long time ago.
