"It's getting dark. I should probably go back now," thought the boy. He was relaxing on top of a hill, underneath an old tree, thinking about everything that had happened since Sasuke left. He did this quite often. He sat up, then lay back down, not wanting to leave the cool breeze the was blowing through his blonde hair. "I'll just rest a little longer," he thought as he closed his piercing blue eyes.

Suddenly, the air shook, as thunder roared directly behind him, jolting him out of his brief reverie.

"What the…" he started to say, "Where did all these clouds come from? I only closed my eyes for a second." As the swirling mass grew bigger and bigger, the center of the clouds started to move skywards. As the boy watched this, a figure started to descend from the center of the dark mass. As he made his final descent, his slim figure touching down soundlessly on the ground, his long, silver hair fanned out slightly, as though suspended by some unseen force.

As he landed, his eyelids suddenly flickered open revealing icy blue eyes that pierced all the way to the very depths of the boys soul; who recoiled backwards at the intensity of the gaze.

"Well, well," he said in his icy, mocking tone, "And who might you be?"

The boy hesitated, unsure of what to make of the stranger. "I-I am Uzumaki Naruto, and someday, I will be Hokage!" His voice faltered at the beginning of the sentence, but grew stronger as he went on. "Who are you?"

"Me?" the man said as he stepped forward, drawing his katana as he stepped. "My name is of no importance to you. You are about to die anyways. About to return to this planet's lifestream. And when that happens, all you will be to me, is one less obstacle between me and the destruction of this planet."

"W-What?" Naruto exclaimed, startled by his words. "Who do you think you are?" he yelled.

"If you really must know, then you may call me…" at this he rushed forward with superhuman speed and whispered in Naruto's ear, barely audible, "Sephiroth," and attacked with his katana, sending Naruto flying.

"Ungh… what – power!" Naruto said as he tried to get up. "But I won't let you beat me. I can't let you win!"

"Let me win? How do you expect to beat me? This is but a mere fraction of my true power. You cannot win! There is no hope! You will fall to me, and then, one by one, your strongest will succumb; until finally, I summon Meteor and choose to end this planet's miserable existence. Nothing can stop me."

Sephiroth then attacked Naruto relentlessly, not giving him a single chance to counter; first ruching past with a slice to naruto's right arm, then back, with an upward attack. Then, while Naruto was still high, he jumped, and attacked with a downward slice, sending Naruto rocketing into the ground, touching down softly himself.

"Now to finish it," he said as he slowly walked forward, raising his katana while preparing for the final strike.

"No. I can't let you beat me," Naruto said while slowly rising, wiping away blood from a cut to his cheek. "Not here. Not now. There's still a promise I need to keep," he said remembering his promise to Sakura. "I can't let you win. I can't let down the people I care about!"

All of a sudden, his eyes changed, grew more wild. His canines elongated and sharpened to points. Finally, a red chakra field formed around him, forming itself into the shape of a fox.

"Well now, what's this?" Sephiroth mocked. "Heh. Looks like this could get interesting."
