A/N: This is just a songfic based off of my favorite Linkin Park song "Waiting For the End" (don't like, I don't care) . I first wanted to write this about Kyo, but decided against it. I do not own Fruits Basket or the song. READ AND REVIEW! (Anon. reviews excepted.)
Akito looked out into her garden. She watched as the cherry blossom petals cascaded down into the clear blue lake. She thought about how all the petals would one day reach the soil. How they would crumple up into a brown petal. She was waiting for that. To be free of the curse. The 'god' was floating mid-air, looking down in anticipation and fear.
Shigure approached Akito carefully, "Akito. Are you okay?" His voice was laced with concern, though the girl perceived it as sarcasm.
"Why the hell would you care?" She turned her head sharply and glared at the dog before her gaze returned to the petals. She was lost in her thoughts again, all centering around her death.
"Shigure? Can I ask you an odd question?" she said softly, noticing that he had taken a seat a few feet away from her. It was strange. She used to enjoy her personal space from everyone, but now she wanted him to be closer. She wanted to hold onto him for dear life. But no, he belonged to someone else. Yet, this didn't stop Akito from coming to him, or was it the other way around? At the time, that was unnecessary.
"Hm? Oh, sure," He replied easily, as smile gracing his lips as he looked at her.
"What would you do if I…..if I died?" she studied his face for a reaction. At first, his face was unusually stern. Soon, however, he returned to normal. Well, not exactly.
He bit his bottom lip, holding back laughter, "What kind of question is that? Are you planning on dying anytime soon?"
Flushed with anger, Akito stood up and pointed to the door, "Leave. Now."
The other stood up as well, face smiling a much softer one. One of silent love, "What? I was just saying."
Her face was red with both blush and anger, "LEAVE DAMMIT!" Tears began to well in her eyes as he walked away, acting ever-so-innocently.
She sat back down and tried to keep a stiff upper lip, but failed miserably. Akito buried her face into her trembling hands. If only….no. Thinking about the 'ifs' would get her nowhere. Akito tried to block them out, though they kept coming back. If only the curse didn't exist. If only they weren't who they were.
All I want to do is trade this life for something new, holding on to what I haven't got.
