"I guess even a dark lord can't survive that…" The young girl whispered to herself. She glanced over at the monstrous unrooted tree laying across the body of the most feared dark lord in the world; Voldemort. She stumbled a few feet away from the grisly scene trying to find her way back through the Forbidden Forest. The world swam, her vision blurred. The last thing she remembered was a flurry of voices and the sound oh hooves frantically beating the ground in their haste.

When she woke, She was nearly blinded by the stark white walls of the hospital wing in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Vaguely recognizable voices drifted on the edges of her consciousness. She shut her eyes wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep and forget the pain, forget the fear, and most of all, forget Voldemort. At the thought of the dark lord, the girl sat straight up in her hospital bed, screaming. The voices outside her room cut off abruptly and a group of teachers rushed in, Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster, in the lead. Minerva McGonagall took one of the girl's hands and smoothed her hair in an attempt to calm it wasn't until Dumbledore took her free hand and whispered to her that she stop screaming and drew a shuddering breath. Tears in her eyes, she looked into the startling blue behind the headmaster's half-moon glasses.

"Professor…I killed someone." she breathed.

"No, my dear, he was more a monster than a man."

"But I killed him." She sobbed. "I killed him!"

"No, my dear. He lives." Dumbledore responded. The girl's sobs ended abruptly.

"A-alive?"

"Yes, child. You did no more than injure him. He was gone before we reached you." Dumbledore explained gently.

"B-but that means…" Her eyes widened with fear as the kind headmaster nodded sagely.

"He will come after you." Sorrow filled the wizard's eyes. "You will need to flee."
