Sirius Black, 15 years-old, never made nervous by a single girl in his life, was now nervous. As the object of his attention walked by, her hips swinging in time with whatever new Broadway song she was singing, her long golden hair swinging opposite her hips, he could not stop staring. Her lovely soprano floated through the air towards him as she walked away from him, not even sparing him a passing glance. His eyes were glued to her, and he cleared his throat. "Li…" his damn voice cracked.

He tried again. "Li… Lily?" She stopped in her tracks and turned, her golden hair swinging into her face as her eyes searched the sophomore area, looking for the source of the croak. Her eyes found his, her pale hand brushed her hair from her face, and she approached him, hips swinging. Her pink binder, stuffed with her various papers and folders from classes was obscuring her shirt from view, but he was sure it was one of the many Broadway show shirts she owned and he saw on a regular basis. "Yes?" She asked inquisitively, her voice chiming with question. He cleared his throat again, intent upon not sounding like a frog again.

"I want… I wanted…" he could not force the words that he had practiced in front of the mirror last night to come around the knot in his throat that was his nervousness. He finally just blurted them out in a bundle of words thrust at her face. "Areyougoingtothedanceonfriday?" Lily swallowed, attempting to unweave the words. "Um… What?" She asked, her beautiful eyebrows rising up her forehead as she looked at him, entirely confuzzled. Sirius cleared his throat, yet again, and tried again, speaking so slowly that she surely thought he was an idiot. "Are… You… Going… To… The… Dance… On… Friday?" He had been looking at his feet as he asked her the first time, and now he raised his gaze to find her beautiful, deep green eyes, and to gage her reaction. It was one of complete disbelief, but not disappointment.

She blinked a few times, considering, and her lips parted slightly. Her lovely, plump, red lips, parted slightly to show her white teeth and pink tongue. Her chin lowered to give him the answer that would either break his heart and stop his breathing, or would make him ecstatic with joy. Her lips started forming a letter, and then…

"Hey, Lils! How are ya?" It was James. Why did James have to show up at the least convenient of times? Damn him. Now Sirius would never know the answer.
