Sunflower
By SMYGO4EVA
Her name held the meaning from a lovely flower, one that radiated loyalty and longevity, the waves of nourishment and vibrancy of Helios. Those flowers of her namesake were the gift of the sun, radiance and light. A quality such as that would hold a lot of expectations from her, for her to be sweet, kind, helpful and possessing a healing power over all, to bring good fortune to all who surrounded her, in life and the next.
You would believe that with so much passion, light and love for all within that name, she would be 'the goddess of good luck' to all those around her, to bring fortune to them in their very existence.
No such thing for young Himawari Kunogi – even if her name meant 'sunflower', a flower of light and such love, she was cursed. She was damned to bringing misfortune to those around her, therefore staining her hands in the most crimson of blood, marking her for all time, even when others cannot see the blood on her frail hands.
For this young girl, others couldn't see that her smiling face and cheerful nature only masked what she truly was in this world and the next; she was a young, bright and lovely schoolgirl when it really only hide the truth that she was an angel from the underworld, or at least, a devil from paradise.
Until her wish to no longer be a jinx, to no longer emanate bad luck to others, would be granted, she would always be a harbinger of misfortune, despite the meaning of her name.
