Neville has always had a crush on Luna. She was quirky and unpopular, just like him, but in a different way. For days, weeks even, he tried to get enough courage to talk to her, but every time he saw her, he couldn't think of what he should say. She was so pretty with her long blonde hair down her back and her adorably goofy smile.

Finally, after months of preparation to convince himself to do it, he walked up to her when she was alone in the hallway. "Hi, Neville!" she said cheerfully.

Startled that she recognized him and even knew his name, he only managed to stutter, "Hi…Luna" before awkwardly running away, clutching his books to his chest. Little did he know that as he ran away, Luna was dreamily staring at him and wondering if he would ever like her back.

Over the next few years, the two started talking to each other more and quickly became good friends. They were both hopelessly in love with each other while oblivious to the other's feelings.

A few years later, during the Battle of Hogwarts, Neville showed more courage than he ever had in the past when he stood up to Voldemort. Luna was one of the many witnesses to Neville's courage during this time and decided to say something to him because she was overwhelmingly impressed, but not surprised, that he was brave enough to do that. Luna sat on a step and motioned Neville to sit next to her.

She walked up to him. "Hello, Neville!" she greeted him.

"Hey, Luna," he replied. After his encounter with Voldemort, he felt as if he could do anything.

"You were pretty brave."

"Yeah, I guess so," Neville replied timidly.

They sat for a few moments in silence.

"Hey, Neville," Luna said to him. "Would you like to go out to lunch with me? I know this great place in Hogsmeade that has the best butterbeer."

"Yeah, sure! We can bring Ron and Harry and Hermione-"

She cut him off. "No, just you and me."

"Like a date?" He was so nervous. Was Luna really asking him out? It couldn't be real.

"Yes, of course it's like a date!" said Luna enthusiastically.

"Uh, yeah, okay! That would be great! I got to go…talk to Harry. Bye!" He was so nervous that he ran out to find his friends and share the news. He was so happy that the girl of his dreams actually asked him out. He didn't stop smiling for a week.
