A Beautiful Lie

-

Rinoa was not anywhere near stupid.

But she was in love. In love with a man, whose eyes showed as much emotion as a stone. But she kept persisting, knowing that what she was reaching for might never be achieved.

She thought that she could live with it. But when she watched Squall walking inside the room they shared, she realized it all over again. No matter how close they were, there was still too much distance put between them. They could kiss, make love and act as if everything was alright. But after all, it was nothing but a sick game they kept playing.

Squall takes off his shoes and sits down on the bed. He unzips his jacket and throws it on the floor, before lying down on the king sized bed. Rinoa watches as he closes his eyes, without saying a word.

Squall was beautiful. Rinoa sighed and leaned forward and hovered above the resting man. She smiled and brushed a strand of brown hair behind the man's ear, "Welcome home."

The brunet only grunted and rolled to his side. Rinoa pulled her hand back, the smile still on her lips. She knew that Squall didn't love her, but hoped that if she loved him strong enough, their relationship would remain. And it had, although it was slowly driving Rinoa to the edge.

She knew that she couldn't hold on to Squall forever. Rinoa wasn't blind enough not to notice how Squall always smelled like other women. But she didn't blame him.

Rinoa yawned and picked up a small can from her bedside table and plopped it open. Five pills dropped down on Rinoa's palm and she frowned, "Look, only five left…"

"You're supposed to only take one per day." Squall mumbled half-asleep, "Isn't that what the doctor said?"

Rinoa smiled when she heard Squall's voice. She was happy that the man at least tried to pretend he cared of her, "Yeah. I need to buy more soon."

Then she put all five pills in her mouth and swallowed them. She lied down next to the man she loved so much that she wanted to sleep with him forever.

"Goodnight darling."

-end.

A/N: This story was inspired by 30 second to mars' song, a beautiful lie. I don't own final fantasy VIII.
