Chapter 1: After the War
'When did things change so much?' Kakashi thought as he spun in his chair to gaze out the window.
It had been seven years since the Fourth Great War ended and everything had changed.
The five great nations had trade routes to one another and the leaf had been rebuilt to its former glory and pushed further beyond what it was before it was destroyed by Pain.
Kakashi sighed as he grabbed a file from his desk.
It was Naruto Uzumaki's file.
Five years prior, Naruto had disappeared from the village without letting anyone know where he was going, with no letter or note stating why.
Tsunade cried immensely as she drank to drown her sorrows. She was saddened when Jiraiya died, but when Naruto left, she was destroyed.
As soon as this was brought to Kakashi's attention, multiple teams had been sent out to find him, but the Inuzuka reported that there were dozens of different scent trails, telling them that Naruto had used Shadow Clones to make sure he was never found.
The attitude of the village was depressed and confused. They were sad to not have the hero of the Leaf around, and were wondering what they or what someone did to make him leave.
There was a knock at the door, pulling Kakashi from his nostalgia.
"Come in." He said tiredly as he put down Naruto's file.
The door opened to reveal Team Yamato: Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Sai, and Yamato.
"Team Yamato reporting in, Sir." Yamato announced as they entered.
"Alright, lay it on me." Kakashi muttered.
"Mission was a success and on the way home we ran into one of Sai's spy's." Sakura informed Kakashi, who nodded.
"Sir, the man believes he has found Naruto." Sai said as he pulled out a scroll. "They said that they saw a man in a store with bright blonde hair and tan skin with whisker-like marks adorning his cheeks and his chakra was massive when he tried to sense to see if it was Naruto."
"Is he sure Sai?" Kakashi asked, really hoping that it was Naruto. "Where was he seen?"
Sai read the scroll over.
"It seems he is homed at a small village north of the desert, but south of Stone." Sai reported. "He seems to be living as a store owner."
Kakashi took a breath.
"Kakashi, give me three days to recharge my chakra and I'll use my Rinnegan to teleport myself and Sakura there. We will convince him to return if it is him." Sasuke recommended.
Kakashi thought about it.
"Alright, I ask you to go and validate that it is indeed Naruto in three days." Kakashi ordered.
"Yes sir." Team Kakashi said as they headed out of the office.
"Say Sasuke." Sakura muttered softly.
"What is it Sakura?" Sasuke answered, wondering what was on his girlfriends mind.
"wh.. What do you think will happen if it is Naruto?" Sakura asked as she looked him in the eye. "Do you think he will have changed in these last seven years?"
"Time changes everything." Sai chirped budding in. "In what ways, we won't know. But we can hope he is still the same Naruto from before."
"I agree with Sai." Sasuke answered.
Deep down, Sasuke was afraid. He was afraid that he had lost the only friend he had and if he changed for the worst. He may not know why Naruto left, but he knew it must be bad enough for Naruto to leave.
"Also…" Sakura said as she looked down and rubbed her stomach. "I wonder how he will take finding out about the little one."
Sasuke smiled.
"I bet he'll be shocked." Sasuke answered.
In the woods near Shinsaku(1) Village…
Naruto stretched as he finished placing his tray of unfired pottery in the heated kiln and set the timer.
"Man that was a work out." Naruto said aloud as he closed the kiln and moved to sit down and grabbed his water.
He wore a pair of blue jeans and an orange shirt with a red flame swirl on the front.
He was outside his house out in the woods near Shinsaku village. His work area was his front lawn and he had a small store house for finished goods. (2)
"Isn't it about time that she should be back?" Kurama asked as he stretched in the seal.
"Yeah it is, but she may be with a friend." Naruto replied before he felt a presence making its way up the path to his house in a hurry.
Naruto stood up and made his way to the path were he saw a small child run at him, her tiny arms opening wide, her deep blue eyes wide with happiness.
"DADDY!" She shouted with joy as she jumped into his arms and hugged him tightly.
She had shiny black hair, tied back into a low pony tail. She wore a pair of shorts, a shirt, and simple sandals. A small backpack was hanging off her back with an orange fox figure on the string.
"Afternoon Tamamo(3)." Naruto said as he lifted her up and spun her around. He pulled her close and kissed her cheek, earning some giggles from the young child.
"How was class today?" he asked as he put her on his shoulders.
"It was boring." Tamamo stated a little too fast for Naruto's liking. "Old man Konoe dragged on and on about how the village was founded."
"I know it's boring, but learning is important and should be fun." Naruto said as he headed towards his house.
"I'm not interested in history." Tamamo said as she bent over to look her dad in the eye. "I want to learn how to do the things you train in daddy. It seems more fun."
Naruto stopped walking as his body stiffened as his eyes became somber and distant.
'I don't want you to become like me Tamamo.' Naruto thought as he started walking again. 'You should be a child as long as possible.'
"Dad can I help you with your next set of pieces?" Tamamo asked, not seeing the emotion in his eyes.
"Sure." Naruto said with a big smile, before his eyes narrowed. "After you finish your homework though."
"But daddy…" Tamamo whined with her eyes watering and her lip puckering out for the infamous puppy eyes.
"No buts young lady." Naruto said sternly as he opened the door and entered their house.
Evening, after dinner…
Naruto tucked Tamamo under her blankets and kissed her forehead.
"I love you Tama." Naruto whispered.
"I love you to daddy." Tamamo muttered softly and slowly as she drifted off to sleep.
Smiling, Naruto exited her room silently and made his way out to finish his pieces.
"Naruto, you do realize that you can't stay here forever." Kurama said as his partner pulled on his gloves and tongs.
"I know Kurama." He said as he opened the kiln, a flare of fire erupted from the opening and quickly died down as he pulled each piece out. "But I will make sure Tamamo has a normal child hood unlike me."
Kurama nodded. He knew what Naruto was talking about. Both knew that even if certain people knew he had a daughter, they would use her to get to Naruto. So keeping her here in a village away from ninja life would keep her safe.
"The village may send a team here if they find out about you living here." Kurama mentioned.
Naruto stopped in the middle of pulling a jar out of the kiln. His hair over shadowed his eyes in the fracture light of the kiln.
"If they find us, we will run away and make a new home." Naruto stated. "Tsubaki understood this, even if it was difficult for us."
"Tamamo won't be happy to leave her friends behind. She is still a child Naruto and she isn't as understanding as your wife."
"I KNOW KURAMA!" Naruto shouted, dropping the tongs and the jar shattered upon connecting with the ground.
Kurama winced as he witnessed Naruto stormed out of the kiln area and returned to the house.
Once in his room, Naruto sighed.
He looked at the picture on his nightstand to see the picture of him, Tamamo, and his wife Tsubaki.
Tsubaki had long black hair, which Tamamo inherited, and she had amethyst eyes that shined like diamonds. The picture displayed Naruto holding Tsubaki, who wore a hospital gown, as she held the new born Tamamo. Tsubaki looked tired as she leaned against Naruto's shoulder and Naruto had waterfall leaking from his eyes as the two of them held their daughter.
Naruto sighed as he shucked off his pants, removed his socks and sat on the edge of his bed looking at the family photo.
He clutched his chest as his heart painfully started to beat faster as he remembered his loving wife. The wife who loved him and all his shortcomings, the wife who made him a father. She had helped him become a potter.
Then, they came and took her from him and their daughter.
Tears swelled in the edges of his eyes as he closed them.
"Good night Tsubaki." He said quietly as he turned off his light and crawled into bed.
Leaf village, three days later…
"So if he isn't there, please come back as soon as possible." Kakashi ordered as his former pupils were standing before a portal that would take them to Shinsaku village.
"We will Lord Kakashi." Sakura said with a bow.
Sasuke nodded and grabbed Sakura's hand as he entered the portal, and stepped out of it before Shinsaku Village, and Sakura appeared next to him as is closed.
"So, any ideas on how we are going to find him." Sakura asked.
"I'll find his chakra with my Sharingan." Sasuke said, as if it was the most obvious thing.
The sharingan spun to life as he saw the large collective amount of chakra from the villagers and visitors. He looked around a bit before he saw that there was a huge concentrated amount of chakra a short way away from the village.
"There, beyond the village there is a large cluster of chakra." Sasuke pointed as his sharingan faded. "Let's go Sakura."
Naruto's home…
Naruto was using his Rasengan to blend his clay in the yard while Tamamo was practicing dancing.
Naruto smiled proudly as Tamamo twirled and landed gracefully. She was the one that helped catch the customer's attention with her dancing, but only on the weekends when school was out.
"Well, that's enough for now." Naruto said as he felt the clay and its flexibility. "Hey Tamamo, time for your first piece."
Stopping almost immediately, the five year-old ran up to her dad and walked with him to the kiln area where the table was.
"Are you ready Tamamo?" he asked cheekily, already knowing the answer.
Tamamo nodded vigorously as she witnessed him pull a chunk of the clay off of the rest and handed it to her along with some wooden tools and some really watery clay for putting the pieces together.
"Now let your imagination run wild and we'll fire it tomorrow when it dries out." Naruto said as he pulled some clay for himself and walked to his area.
Tamamo looked at the clay in her hands.
'What to make?' she thought.
Several minutes went by before Tamamo had an idea.
Clumsily, she pulled the clay into ten smaller chunks and took two of them and rolled them out by rubbing her hands back and forth until she had a thick coil.
Proud of her work, Tamamo took time forming each of the remaining chunks into flower petals.
Taking one of the serrated wood tools Tamamo made grooves into each piece in designated areas and put them together with the liquid clay and pressed them together, smoothing them out with her tiny hands.
"Looking pretty good sweetheart." Naruto said from behind her, making Tamamo jump.
"Daddy!" she said annoyed. "I could have ruined my piece."
"I'm sorry sweetie." Naruto said as he looked closer at the piece. "Is it a camellia?"
"Yep, I am making it for mom." Tamamo said as she continued. "You told me her name meant Camellia so I thought it would be nice to make her name sake."
"I think she'd love it." Naruto said, proud of her being so creative like her mother.
Suddenly, Naruto felt two chakra signatures at the base of the plot of land he owned. His eyes widened as he recognized who they were.
"Tamamo!"he said in a deep tone, one she was not familiar with as he put his hands on her shoulder to look at her. "Stay here and don't come out."
"Daddy what's happening?" Tamamo asked.
"Promise me you won't leave this room." He sternly said.
"Daddy…"
"PROMISE ME!"
Tamamo flinched. Her eyes filled with confusion and fear, but she nodded. "I promise."
"That's a good girl." Naruto said as he hugged her before he separated and shut the door.
He took a dozen steps as he felt the people get closer.
When their heads poked out from around the bend, Naruto's eyes narrowed and he crossed his arms.
"Why are you here… Uchiha?"
