Let's Leave Bulbi

Could I really leave him? Did I have the strength? I stood there, watching that brown haired boy, pondering the thought. He wanted me to go, to save myself and our friends. Yet, I knew that I couldn't do it. I loved him too much to leave him in this desolate place.

Jimmy just had to go on this adventure. Now our survival based upon leaving him here for the Yolkins to find.

"I'm not leaving you," I told him solemnly. I can feel the tears well up in my eyes. I watch his soft, robin eye blue eyes. I try to memorize each and every fleck in them. In case I may not see them ever again.

"You have to Cindy. You are the only one that can fly the rocket. Libby, Sheen, Carl, and Bulbi are counting on you. One more added person on the craft will cause the rocket to only get out of the atmosphere and then it would be a floating rock through space. That is why I have to stay here," he said to me.

"I'm not leaving you Nerdtron!" I exclaim loudly. He sighed and rolls his perfect eyes. I watch as he runs a hand through his brown hair which is far more subdued now in our older age.

"Yes you are!" He yells back.

"I'm not leaving the only person I have ever loved!" I yell back. He stops, blinking at me. My heart stops at the prospect of having him find out this way. Memories float through my mind of the day that he had first came to town. We had been only eight years old then. Ten years had passed and I still loved him. I had always pictured that I would tell him in a way that was far more fitting than screaming at him that I loved him in a life or death situation.

"You love me?" He asks me softly. I lick my lips slowly and nod.

"Yes Jimmy. I love you. Always have and always will. Ever since I first met you I knew that I loved you. I just couldn't tell you. Can't we just leave stupid Bulbi? He will never know the difference?" I plead. Jimmy laughs.

"That's horrid to say about Bulbi. And I love you too Cindy," Jimmy replies. I stop breathing. Did he really say that?

"You . . . you. . . do?" I stuttered. Jimmy smiled and nodded, taking a step towards me.

"Yes Cindy. I do. Have since the moment I first saw you playing across the street with Libby and your stupid dolls," he said, a smile dancing in his eyes. I can feel my cheeks blushing brightly.

"Does that mean that you'll come with us and not be a hero?" I ask him softly. Jimmy's smile fades. He takes my hand and pulls me closer to him.

"I can't," he whispers.

"It's easy. Bulbi can stay here. The Yolkins won't hurt him," I whisper back.

"I can't take that chance."

"We can come and get him right after we drop off the others and have fixed the rocket," I try, hoping that I can convince him. Jimmy sighs.

"I don't know. . . " Jimmy says, but I pull him closer to me and place my lips softly against his. I can feel him relax beneath my lips. I start to pull away, but he pulls me closer and begins to kiss me passionately. I sigh deeply as waves of emotion tingle through my body.

After several minutes of pure bliss we pull away, breathing hard. Jimmy smiles.

"Let's leave Bulbi and come back for him after we fix the rocket," he whispers. I smile and take his hand.

"Smart plan Jimmy," I reply as I lead him to the rocket.
