My eyes fluttered as I tried to keep them open. Pain shooting throughout my body, making me wish I could stop the misery. My head slowly turned to my left, and that was when the worst pain happened. There he was, eyes open, and body sitting as still as a boulder. Blood was coming from his stomach where a log was piercing through his body. I cried out for help, but felt like no one could hear me. The tears poured down my cheek as my body went numb.
I could hear voices telling me to hang on, that I would be out any minute now, but I was skeptical to believe them. It felt like I was trapped inside this car for hours. But of course, what seemed like hours has really only been minutes.
Shortly thereafter, I felt them placing a neck brace around my neck, as they attempted to free my body. They kept asking me questions, but I couldn't answer them. I just felt to weak to. The pain in my legs was unbelievable. But I was just too weak to let them know, so I did the only thing possible. I toughed it out. It wasn't long though, because after I was freed from the wreckage, everything went black.
I let out a groan as I fought to open my eyes. The light was bright, so I flinched a little when they first opened. Of coarse when this happened, an unbearable pain took over my body. I let out a cry. I saw a young woman from the corner of my eye approach me with a needle. When she noticed I was awake, she quickly ran out of the room. I was assuming to get a doctor. All of this meant one thing. I survived that horrible nightmare.
A man that looked to be in his late 40's, came running back in with the nurse. "Miss Teeple can you hear me?"
I blankly stared at him, trying to get the words to come out, but they couldn't.
"Blink once for no, twice for yes."
I proceeded to blink my eyes twice.
"My name is Dr. Benson, you were in a bad car accident." He informed her. "Your heart stopped on the way to the hospital, but they were able to get you back before you got here. Once you got here, we did surgery to stop the bleeding. You have a concussion, 6 broken ribs, and there is spinal cord injury to the cervical, or you may have heard it as the neck vertebrae. I did…"
I couldn't stand to listen anymore, there was only one thing I was worried about at this moment, and that was my fiancée, Ryan Hodges. "Ryan…" I managed to get out.
The doctor looked back at his nurse and back at me. He pulled his chair over and sat down. "Miss Teeple, I'm afraid Ryan was killed on impact."
I felt as my eyes welled up with tears. I had a feeling he was, but just hearing those words come out of the doctors mouth was so surreal. My fiancée was really gone…
