Never Let Me Go
"You shouldn't be here."
The wind whipped through Jacks hair as he looked out over Cardiff from his high vantage point.
"I know. But I couldn't leave… not just yet." The soft welsh reply was just a whisper in the wind.
Jacks breath caught in his throat and his body froze. He hadn't heard that voice in so long…
He heard footsteps approaching him but he didn't turn around. Surprisingly warm arms snaked around his waist pulling him close to the body he had longed to hold.
"I just wanted to see you, one last time." The breath from the whisper caressed the back of Jacks neck. The arms around him started to pull away but jack tried to grab them protesting softly.
"No. Hold me…please…"
The owner of the arms chuckled slightly and circled Jack so he was facing him, his arms still around his waist. They stared deep into each others smouldering eyes, unspoken words hanging between them.
Jack lifted an arm and tentatively stroked the face in front of him. He traced his fingertips over the features he'd missed so much.
"How…"
A hand was placed over Jacks mouth to stop him speaking. It soon disappeared but was replaced by soft lips gently kissing him. Jack closed his eyes and surrendered, melting into a kiss he would never forget, unaware of the tears now streaming freely down his face. When they came apart for air, Jack had to blink quickly to clear his eyes and refocus them on the beautiful man before him.
"You promised…" he choked out, "you promised you'd always be here for me."
"I know Jack, I know." Both men were crying now, their foreheads pressed together neither one of them wanting to break away from the embrace.
They stood there for a while making the most of whatever time they had left and just being with each other, until…
"I have to go now Jack," the welsh man sobbed.
"No!" Jack cried out his voice filled with the pain of the last six months.
"Please Jack…I love you too much to watch you suffer…you have to move on…you have to let me go…"
"I won't let you go! I'll never let you go!"
"You have to…" was the whispered reply.
Jack was left feeling cold and empty as the young man stepped out of his embrace and closer to the edge of the building. He started to feel nervous as his lover climbed onto the wall of the roof they were on.
"Please, stay with me…I want to love you forever…I won't ever let you die!"
"But Jack…" he turned on the wall a sad smile playing on his lips, "…you forget…I'm already dead…"
With that, he took a step backwards, and fell from the building out of Jacks view. Jack rushed to the wall screaming out his lovers' name, but when he looked over the edge, there was no one there.
