Say Goodbye

Timeline: Three years after Dino Thunder
Genre: Fluff/Romance/General
Prompt: (kiss_bingo) greetings: goodbye
It had been the first time he had seen her in two years. He had to admit, he missed her more than he knew. Kira Ford was a wonderful friend; he had grown closer to her than any of the other Dino Thunder Rangers. She spent her time with him, had protected him and defended him. And he had done the same to her.
She sat across the tiny table, dressed in black. Her hair was straight and dark but her make up was light. This was not the same girl that had left for New York. She was always mature for her age but now she not only looked it but she seemed more confident in herself and her new look. She spoke easy about all things from interests of intellect to entertainment thing.
But mostly, she asked how he was. He was living the life he wanted, the simple life. Just the same day in and day out, teaching kids and going home. Occasionally the others would visit or his friends through the years would visit and as much as he loved those times, he needed this too. To hear her laugh, her voice, to see her smile and the touch of her hand on his.
"Are you going to be home soon?" he asked and she paused, taking a sip of wine. She was now legal to drink but he realized she seemed to be doing it for show given how they'd been at dinner for over and hour and the glass was still half full.
"I hope to be home soon, we're almost done promoting the album. Then it's a waiting game to see if anything comes of it," she said with a nod, then added with a sly smile. "Why? Do you miss me?" As he looked at her, he could only answer honestly.
"I do. I miss you Kira," and she smiled such a beautiful smile.
"I've missed you too, Tommy. New York is great and all but I'm a small town girl, cliché as it maybe. I miss being home, being with my friends who honestly love me instead of all the fakes who are sucking up to me because they think I'm the next big thing," she admitted, "I want to be able to have…someone. Its so lonely being all by yourself…how do you do it?" she asked, he sighed heavily.
"It's hard," he said, "It's hard." Kira nodded.
"Maybe tonight, we should keep each other company," she said, he saw the look in her eye. He had seen it in her eyes several times before, even when she was back in high school. He wanted to say yes, he wanted to bring her home and to bed but he knew she would leave and they'd both be alone. They would call and talk but she'd still be gone.
"As much as I want to, this time I'm going to have to say no," Kira seemed surprised but nodded.
"I understand," she said, though the tears gathering in her doe eyes said otherwise.
"Do you? Kira, I want nothing more than to take you home tonight but you have to leave tomorrow and what would that do to us?" She nodded again.
"I know Tommy, I do understand. I'm not a child; I'm not angry or upset. I'll just have to put my libido on hold until I'm home," she laughed lightly. "If I have a home to return to,"
"Kira, my door is open for you. Always. I do love you, I do want you but its not the right time. But when you come home, we'll see what happens," he told her.
She stood, tugging down her short skirt, and leaned down. Her lips met his in their first kiss. It was soft, lingering, tender, his hand reached into her hair and her hand skimmed his cheek. After they slowly parted, and she kissed him again. This time as they broke, she leaned in close to his ear and whispered three words.
"Good bye, Tommy."
