Brothers
Written by Christina E Lupin
Summary: Set in the summer of 1966 (I think that's the right year when Sirius ran away from his parent's house). Regulus Black watches his brother pack his things after their parents disowned him.
Notes: I will have my other stories updated within a day or two. I just wanted to write this quick and get it out of my head. I hope you all like it.
"What are you doing, Sirius?"
Sirius Black whirled around, a bunch of shirts clutched in his hands, to face his younger brother, Regulus Black. The handsome boy was leaning against the doorway with a shoulder, his arms at his side. His black hair, similar to Sirius' own, was tousled, as if hands had been shoved through it too often. Reg's blue eyes glanced around the large room, taking in the mess.
"What does it look like I am doing?" Sirius spat out, returning to stuffing his trunk and traveling bag with his possessions. Well, the only possessions he wanted to keep.
"Mom and Dad didn't mean it," Regulus spoke, pushing away from the doorway and moved further into the room. "They just…"
"…hate me?"
The younger wizard blew out a breath and ran a hand through his hair. "Don't do this, Sirius. You will regret it if you do."
Sirius snorted and zipped his bag shut. "I won't regret the decision to leave home. I have had enough of their blather and their rants about how blood purity is everything. I might have soaked it all up as a child but I won't tolerate it now." He snapped the lid of his trunk closed. The older Black shrugged on his jacket and slung the bag over his shoulder, while grabbing a handle of the trunk.
Regulus watched his brother walk out of the room and he followed the older boy all the way out to the front door. Neither Orion nor Walburga Black were around, which made Regulus frown. He thought at least their parents would watch him leave, see him off, as it were. His heart sank as the realization dawned on him. Maybe Sirius was right. Maybe their parents really did hate him.
"Don't leave me alone," he whispered, clenching his fists at his side.
Sirius froze, the main door already open. A cool breeze blew in and both boys shivered. The older boy dropped his trunk and turned around to face Regulus, his gray eyes taking in his brother's face. He was shocked to notice that a few tears were trailing down the pale cheeks. Heart in his throat, he stepped forward and embraced Regulus in a hard hug. He heard his brother sniff quietly but he returned the hug.
"I'll never leave you, brother," Sirius whispered in Regulus' ear. "I'll still see you at school."
With one last squeeze, the older wizard released his brother and he picked up his trunk and left, slamming the door shut behind him.
Short and sweet. Let me know what you think. Expect to hear more from me very soon.
