Hi everyone! This is a slight diversion from the other DC fanfic I have going right now. If you haven't figured it out by my other songfic, I am completely and entirely a romantic in addition to my fangirl-ness. Maybe they go hand in hand...I dunno. Anyway, this is a DC songfic. There may be more in the future (which will just be tacked on as later chapters to this one), but I figured this was an excellent place to start.
I don't own Detective Conan, or the song "The Reason".

Ran was heartbroken when Conan came up to the table in the restaurant to announce that Shinichi had to leave again without saying goodbye. He handed her an envelope, saying that it was something Shinichi had meant to give her for a while. He sat down across from her as she opened it and began to read.
Dearest Ran,
I'm not a perfect person
There's many things I wish I didn't do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you
I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
That's why I need you to hear
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You
I'm not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you
I've found a reason to show
A side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you
Love, Shinichi
She couldn't hold back the tears as the memories came flooding back all at once – the times they teased each other, the millions of times he couldn't stop talking about Sherlock Holmes, his budding career as a detective, the last few days before he disappeared the first time, and most importantly all the times he had been there for her along the way. He didn't really need to change, but if it meant more time for them to spend together, she wouldn't complain.
Conan watched intently as the expressions on Ran's face changed. When she finished reading, he asked if she was okay. She replied in the affirmative, while she wiped her eyes. She invited him to join her on the other side of the table, so he obliged and allowed her to hold him. He sighed as he himself started to cry. It would probably be harder now, but at least she knew how he felt.

A/N: Well, hope you liked it. When I started thinking about it, I even got a little worked up myself... This fic is a little different format than my other songfic, but I wrote it out, and now looking at it later, I decided that this format would work anyway...oh, well. Ja ne!
