Title: Mutual
Pairing: Connor/Murphy
Rating: PG.
Summary: They feel the same thing; always.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. Troy Duffy gets the credit for the characters.
Notes: I know they're fraternal twins in the movie, but I'm speaking of the connection that they have as being something more closely related to identical twins. :)

They were twins through and through. When one bit his tongue, the other felt the sting; when one was cold, the other shivered; and when one was hurting, the other took the full brunt of the pain as well.

Today was no different, but as Murphy watched his brother's heart rate monitor beep steadily across the black screen, he couldn't help but wonder if his brother was feeling the same emotional pain as well.
Connor had been in a coma for about two weeks and as each day passed, the doctors gave Murphy less and less hope.

How was he supposed to tell Ma? How could he call her back in Ireland and tell her that her little boy was dying and that there was nothing that could be done to save him?
Murphy furiously wiped away the tears that fell stubbornly from his blue eyes as he reached for his brother's hand, determined to wake him up even if he himself died in the process.

"Connor, it's Murph. You've gotta wake up. Please Con. This is nothin' but a scratch compared to what you've lived through. You've come through way worse. Please. Do it fer ma…do it fer me." The last words were hoarse and strained; Murphy tried his hardest to keep his composure but all hopes were lost as his chest heaved with a sob he didn't know he'd been holding.

Murphy's head slumped onto Connor's forearm as he cried his hardest; pleading to whatever god was listening that Connor would wake up right that minute. He cried until his body gave out and sleep took him, Murphy not waking up until something interrupted his turbulent dreams.

Opening his eyes, Murphy felt like crying even more as he found his brother squeezing his hand, blue eyes meeting blue for the first time in what seemed like eternity.

"Ya gave me a right good scare there, ya did." Murphy managed to spurt out between sniffles, standing and leaning over to hug his brother ferociously.
Connor simply smiled and hugged back, patting his brother's back to comfort him.

"Ya know I'd never do that to ya, Murph. The day we go, we go together. It's always gotta be mutual, ye know that. I was just havin' a rest, is all."

"Well ye were takin' too damn long." Murphy joked back, ruffling his brother's matted hair even as his pain began to subside, taken over by the joy that he saw in his twin's face.
