Star gazing

Carlos Santana looked next to him. He still couldn't believe that it was true.

Here he was, laying on the damp grass of the training pitch of Bayern München, next to him Marie Schneider, happily star gazing with him.

He blinked and looked up at the night sky, looked at the blinking stars above him and thought about how they reflected in Marie's eyes.

His heart beat faster, when he thought of these eyes and how they had glared at him at their first meeting.

He remembered well when he had first seen her and thought her a fan.

Admittedly, he had been a little snotty to her and told her off. She had shot right back.

He had laughed at her, when she told him that she played football too and had said, that no girl could play better football than a man could. He had to swallow his own words.

She had gotten the ball faster from him then he could think. That was how their little 'fight' had started until the night he first saw her laying on the grass, star gazing.

He had come over to her, a teasing right on his lips, but it got lost when he saw that her eyes were red and she was crying.

He had sat down next to her and waited. Why he had done it, not even now he could tell, he had just done it.

She had spoken up first, told him that she used to do that often with her brother.

He had raised only an eyebrow and she had continued.

She had told him, that she behaved silly, that he was only in England, and England wasn't that far away, but still…. She missed him terribly.

She started to cry again and he had felt uncomfortable.

He didn't know how to comfort anyone, had never learned it.

After a few minutes, she had wiped the tears away and sniffled, before she looked up at the stars again.

She told him, that she could talk with her big brother about everything, that he always comforted her.

They had sat there for a while in silence, only looking up at the stars.

That was how their star-gazing had started, after that they met once in the week and looked at the sky, talking about everything that crossed their minds.

He had become something like a big brother for her and at first he had enjoyed it, but now… Now things were different.

He had fallen in love with her over time.

He looked to the side again, looked at her, saw how the stars were shinning in her eyes and then suddenly he leant over and kissed her.

It was nothing wild, no tongues, just a simple kiss on her lips, but he loved it and he could feel her kissing back after she had gotten over the shock.

They broke apart and Carlos Santana looked down at Marie Schneider. Saw the love for him in her eyes and he knew that he was lost forever.
