Different Yet Exactly The Same

A/N. Random? Yes. Odd? Certainly. Somewhat entertaining? Yeah, I guess. A bit of a Character study, I suppose. Anyway, just figured I'd post for the heck of it, build up my CI repetoir, you know. Had to fudge the facts a bit on Alex, wasn't sure of her mom's profession. CI isn't mine, just to remind you.

They were so different.

Alex Eames, Deakins thought. Daughter of a secretary and a police officer. Raised in the 'burbs with numerous siblings. Married young, widowed soon after, but surrogate mother to her nephew. Worked her way doggedly through the ranks to where she was today. She was snarky, passionate, and honest.

Robert Goren was the son of a schizophrenic and a father who'd rather run than deal with his family. He refused to bail his gambler of a brother out of debt on the grounds that he couldn't help those who wouldn't help themselves. An ex-militant and low-level officer fast tracked to greatness because of his talent, he was brilliant, idiosyncratic, and kind.

He was tall where she was short; she was slight where he was broad-shouldered. She was feminine, he was masculine.

They were a study in opposites, he mused.

The pair strolled into the bullpen, giving him identical jerks of the chin in acknowledgement before simultaneously sinking into their chairs.

He smiled. Or not.
