"I need you to know that I will be there for you."

Patrick isn't the type to really care about what people think of him. When you have no family, and work is all you have left, why would you? Patrick did care about one person's thoughts though: Teresa Lisbon.

When she said that she didn't trust him, she might as well shot him. The pain would have been less. Yes, so maybe she didn't really have a reason to trust him. It's true that he rarely tells the truth to her. But when he does tell the truth, he tells it to her.

Also, he actually trusted Lisbon. He knows that she will always do what she says she will. He knows that when he needs help, she will be there. Always. To think that she convinced herself that he would never be there for her just destroys him. Not that he would ever admit it.

Patrick Jane actually liked Lisbon, very much. She still is light, and hopeful, despite the tragedy that took place in her family. Yet, she is guarded, and wise. She likes to help people, but won't let them get to close. Jane has an obsession, an obsession to make Lisbon let him in. He knows he's being foolish, and a little selfish, but he has to. She is the only person closed off to him.

That fact, in itself, is unacceptable. Lisbon is the closest person to him, even though he rarely shows it. He would kill for her, die for her even. He knows that if he died, that she would catch Red John, just for him. She would make sure that he got his just rewards.

Teresa was wrong, he trusts her. He trusts her very much. More than he should, and she is the only person he really trusts. She is good, when he is bad. She is justice, when he is vengeance. She is closed, when he is actually open around her. She is nothing but love. Covered with toughness, of course.

He will make her trust him. He will catch her when she finally does fall. Because everyone needs someone, and she is his. He will make sure that he is her safety net.
