Draco Mansion, 6 years ago

"Hey Draco look, there is something written inside your tree house!"

"What does it say?"

"Je vais rester avec vous quand vous avez besoin de moi car j'ai promis d'être votre seul véritable ami dans le danger, le malheur et la maladie."

"It's French."

"Well, what does mean?"

"I'll stay with you when you need me for I have pledged to be your only true friend through danger, misfortune and illness."

Present

We were on the train headed to our sixth year of Hogwarts. The carriage was empty except for me and Pansy. I was lying on her lap, enjoying the feeling of her petite hands running through my hair, while she stared absent-mindedly out the window.

Earlier, I informed my followers of the task the Dark Lord gave me. They all praised me but no matter what she said, Pansy still looked like she had something to say.

"Pansy, is there something troubling you?" She moved her head to face me with a fake smile on her face. "What could you mean, Drakey?" she cried with the annoying name and fabricated enthusiasm she used in public.

Despite what others think, she isn't as bitchy, annoying or stupid as she lets on. It is unwise to reveal what you really think when you are in Slytherin, because anyone can use that information to stab you in the back. This way of thinking was grilled into our brains before we even joined Hogwarts, and Pansy follows it to the letter. She's good at it too, one of the many reasons I respect her.

I am the only person in school that knows her real personality, other than a select few who have been on the receiving end of her wrath. People say that the only reason she is by my side, and the queen of Slytherin was because I wanted to keep our parents happy, absolute bull.

"Don't Drakey me, Parkinson. I know something's wrong, tell me?" I said a bit too harshly. She sighed loudly before replacing her fake smile with a tired one. "I'm just worried Draco." Aah, just like Pansy to be the only one out of the people I told, to be worried about the consequences instead of blindly praising me.

"Do you think me incapable of completing this task?"

"No!" she replied hastily "I'm just thinking that no matter what the outcome, you will still leave me behind. I mean, if you succeed then you will leave school to join the Dark Lord. If you fail, not that I'm saying you will, then you will either be punished or caught and taken away to Azkaban." I grimaced at being reminded of my father's situation, Pansy was about to apologize, but was interrupted when I got up to leave the compartment as we pulled into the station.

"Don't worry your pretty head over something like that, I won't ever leave you."

As I turned to leave, she stood up and shouted "Swear by it!"

I raised an eyebrow in confusion before recognizing the words from our past. "Je vais rester avec vous quand vous avez besoin de moi..."

I replied "…car j'ai promis d'être votre seul véritable amour dans la vie à venir." With that, I left her in the compartment to think about the last part of the pledge I changed.

"...for I pledge to be your one true love in lives to come."
