"You're still out here?"
Juvia sat up at the sound of Gray's voice. She'd been lying down in the grassy hill a short distance from the guild, basking in the warm sunshine in a new dress Cana had chosen for her. "Gray-sama!" she exclaimed, her cheeks reddening. "Juvia was just… um…" Juvia ran her fingers through the grass and looked away nervously. "Er, Juvia just really likes the sun."
"Huh?" Gray plopped down beside her, not at all considering personal space.
"Juvia has never actually seen the sun before, Gray-sama," she quietly admitted. The downpour that used to haunt her every step went unmentioned, but they were both thinking about it.
"Um…" Gray scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Well, the sun isn't that great. And clear skies? Meh." He nodded eagerly. "Sometimes – lots of times – the rain is… nice."
Juvia blinked in confusion. "B—but, Gray-sama! The rain is so depressing!" She turned her head away in shame.
Gray cursed himself for bringing up the rain in the first place. "Well…" He crossed his arms and raised his chin confidently. "Sometimes the sun burns you." She looked confused – which wasn't particularly surprising given her inexperience with this new thing called sunlight – so he continued: "Well, okay to be honest I'm not really sure how it happens, but basically when you're out in the sun too long without any sunscreen or whatever it burns your skin and you get really red and it hurts."
He snickered, remembering the time a year or so ago when Natsu had burnt his shoulders and how furious he'd get every time Gray slapped the red spots. However, his amusement died down when he noticed Juvia's silence and the terrified look on her face.
Crap.
"But you won't get burnt!" he added, nodding his head wildly.
She didn't seem to hear him as she crawled a few meters to the left to sit under the shade of a tree.
Gray followed her and stumbled over his words, "Right, because, uh, you're water?" He didn't sound very confident, though. Really, at that point he was just saying whatever came to mind – which, given the past few minutes, wasn't particularly wise. "I guess you'll… boil?"
Juvia pouted and for a moment he thought she looked kind of cute. "Gray-sama, Juvia is very confused."
Lying down beneath the shade, he sighed.
"Juvia, Gray's pretty confused too."
