Ryan's Shiver By Coolcolin5

From the moment Ryan Atwood awoke he felt a shiver tingle down his back. At first he thought Seth was just watching him sleep or something. Not that that had happened before, it just seemed like something Seth Cohen would do. Sit on the edge of his bed until he awoke and then Seth would immediately break into ramblings of love for Summer or dislike for Zack. But as Ryan looked around he saw no reason for alarm. Maybe he was cold, but when his eyes glanced to confirm the feeling that he wasn't cold at all, he saw his blankets wrapped tightly around him. If anything he was overheated, now that he really thought about it. Of course this wasn't the first time he had felt this kind of shiver. He had felt it almost two years ago, on a cold morning in Chino. In fact it was on the day of his arrest. Ryan thought long and hard about that unknown shiver that night in jail and now that he had just felt the same shiver he truly didn't want to get out of bed.

"Dude get up now it's an emergency!" Seth screamed into the pool house. His face filled with fear.

Instinctively Ryan jumped out of bed and ran for the pool house door, towards Seth, not even caring that he was running into the back yard with only his boxer shorts on. His shiver was never wrong, he had it before his arrest and he had it before his father left. Now it had happening again.

"What's going on," Ryan quickly asked, knowing that if something was critically wrong time was crucial.

"Kirsten…" Seth panted.

"Kirsten what?" Ryan asked.

Kirsten Cohen had returned from rehab less then a week ago. Although they did visit the rehab clinic, it was awkward. But upon Kirsten's return the awkwardness disappeared and the strong independent woman Ryan first met when he arrived at the Cohen household had returned. She was obviously feeling guilty about the time she had spent away from the boys because over the last five days she had become super mom.

"Follow me…" Seth continued panting.

Ryan quickly followed Seth into the house, when he froze. Ryan was left standing, in his underwear, with Julie, Marissa, Jimmy and Summer all staring. Some turned around to smile, some let a giggle slip, but Summer let out a whopper of a laugh.

"Hey Chino," Summer snicker, "Could have at least put some pants on for your company."

Ryan glared at Seth, "What was the emergency?"

"Mom… Cooking… Fire!" Seth said, still out of breath.

Ryan turned around to see Kirsten holding a fire extinguisher and a frying pan filled with egg and fire extinguisher foam.

"Seth it was only the eggs and I put it out in like three seconds if you wouldn't have run out of the room screaming fire."

"Way to let us burn Cohen," Summer commented.

Ryan turned back around to face everyone and gave the most brooding look at Seth he could muster.

"I think I'll go put on some pants."

Ryan turned around and walked out of the kitchen, ignoring the whistles of the girls mocking him. The only thing that bothered him, was that it wasn't anything serious, but yet he had that shiver.

As Ryan walked back into the pool house, he put on some clothing and glanced at the clock. He still had fourteen hours before bed and who knows what horrible things could happen during that time. Ryan stopped at a mirror and did a quick finger comb and then headed back to the kitchen for some of Kirsten's eggs.
