Boromir silently opened the door and stepped into the room, pulling the door closed behind him. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the dimness. A roaring fire cast leaping shadows about the quiet room.
For a long moment Boromir leaned against the door, watching his wife who sat before the fire on a small couch. Her hair was a golden red in the dancing flames' light. A tired smile settled on his face. How he had missed the sight of her.
Soundlessly he walked forward, coming to a stop right behind her. His gaze moved to the sleeping baby held gently, protectively in her mother's arms. Joy filled him as he stared down at the tiny face. The hair growing on her head matched his; yet behind her closed lids, she had her mother's eyes.
Slowly, Boromir reached down to caress his daughter's cheek with one finger, marveling at its softness.
His wife did not act startled at his unexpected presence; instead she simply looked up at him with a dazzling smile. Boromir took her waiting lips in a gentle, needful kiss, running his fingers through her hair. After a long minute, he pulled away from her reluctantly, gasping for air.
"For a moment I feared I was only dreaming of you returning, being here beside me, my Lord," Eowyn confessed with a small smile. Holding Theodwyn with one arm, she brought up her free hand to touch his beard. "You have been gone long."
"Longer than I desired," Boromir said, taking her hand in his and pressing a kiss to her palm. "I have missed you both greatly." Love shone in his eyes for the two ladies before him.
Another beautiful smile graced Eowyn's face as she moved over on the couch and Boromir seated himself next to her. Carefully he took Theodwyn from her. A sigh of bliss escaped his lips as Eowyn rested her head on his shoulder. He was home.
