If I die before I wake

Lord I pray my soul don't take

Until the dawning of the day

You come and take his soul away

Breathe.

Dead. She was running, or perhaps she was walking. She couldn't remember. She only knew that the cold numbness that had been spreading throughout her body was slowly beginning to affect her ability to think. Dead. That one word became the entire focus of her being, her consciousness. It stabbed into her like a hot blade, slowly following its predetermined path to her heart. She stopped running. Her eyes frantically searched her surroundings trying to gain some sense of bearing. If he were here he would know what to do. The moan was wrenched from some part of her she did not know existed. The part of her she had pushed down through the years. The part she had concealed. The part of her that was now a bleeding, cavernous wound. Something caught her eye. She walked to the security depot and gained entrance to the apartment complex. She approached the elevator with a grim step. She did not cry. She would not cry. Dead. Her eyes began to tear. This was the apartment complex of the Preventer's Special Forces Center. This was Heero's apartment complex. Dead. The elevator doors closed with a soft thump. The sound of two substances coming together. Sealing her into the elevator. She could see her eyes tearing up in the reflection of the doors. She barely heard the sickening sound as the doors were suctioned apart. This was the floor to Heero's apartment. Heero was head of the Preventer's Special Forces Team now and as such he had his own floor. Dead. She felt like she was going to be torn apart. Her tissues slowly wrenched from her. She was standing in front of his door. It isn't fair. She was pounding on the door. Frantically beating against the portal. Mind reeling her breath came in short raspy gusts. The door seemed to open, and she was afraid to look up. She wasn't sure, but she could feel cobalt eyes looking into her. Melting her. She blinked looking up wondering if she was delusional, if she had finally driven herself over the edge. She felt herself sinking into her own body. But I need him. She took a deep breath.

She spoke, her voice wavering, "Heero… it's Milliardo… He's dead."
