Chapter 1 Hungry

It was a dark and stormy night when Demelza walked in to town. She had been looking for her brother for years and had finally tracked him down. San Francisco had been the last place she had decided to look and she was not happy, she was drenched and weary as she walked in to the nearest hotel. She was hungry, exceptionally hungry.

"I'd like a room please." she said to the woman at the front desk. As the woman handed her a key her eyes landed on her neck and her mouth watered with hunger. "Where's the nearest blood bank." She inquired as she fought her instincts.

"I really don't know---you should check the yellow pages. There's one in your room." she replied.

"Thank you." She alleged taking the key. "I don't wish maid service and no wake up call please" she said as she walked away.

Exhausted beyond belief she opened the door to her room, threw the key on the bed and reached for the yellow pages. The book opened, as if on its own accord, to an ad for a subscription to the local newspaper and on the ad was a photo of a beautiful woman named Phoebe Hallliwell, Advice Columnist. She suddenly got an idea to ask her for help, but first she needed to find a blood bank or a butcher.

She walked down the dark, damp street to the butcher shop as she guessed the butcher would have a wider variety of blood. Human blood always made her nervous. She did not like the taste of other blood very much, but drinking human blood felt wrong.

'Damn soul!' she thought as she walked in to the small shop.

"Excuse me?" she called looking over the counter

"Yes"

"Umm… Do you have any pig's blood?"

"Well… yes would you like it right away?"

"Yes please" She answered famished. The man went to the back room and came back with five 12oz. glass bottle of dark red liquid.

"How much will that be sir?"

"Free. I've been looking for a way to get rid of this." She now looked at him more closely and noticed he had fear in his eyes.

"Thank you sir but you don't have to worry about me. I won't hurt you. Now how much will that be?"

"Free. I don't price blood ma'm." He said putting the blood in to a bag.

"Wait" She took a bottle and drank deeply. "Thank you so much. I haven't eaten in weeks." She stated as she watched the man's body go tense. "Good bye" she said walking out the door with her bag of blood.

She was back in her room in a matter of minutes. She was looking through the phone book for Phoebe Halliwell's address. It took her a few second but she found it along with two other names with the same address, last name, and phone number. She got up and decided to visit her.

'Maybe she can help me.' Demelza thought as she rounded a corner. She walked for more than a mile taking different alley ways and streets. To a person who didn't know her it would seem like she had been here before.

She finally stopped at a big red house. All the windows were lit and there was something looking in one of the windows. Demelza crept up closer to it, but before she could grab her dagger, it had shimmered in to the house. She suddenly heard fierce battling inside the house and a baby crying. She ran to the door but could not enter.

"Damn!" she went to one of the windows and saw the raging battle inside and then they vanquished him one of them had a minor cut and another one had been thrown across the room but they were going to be fine.
Demelza walked around to the front door and knocked before they left the room.
