John stepped out of the shower after getting into his casual evening attire. Sherlock was sitting on the sofa, with two nicotine patches attached to his forearm.

"Sherlock!" John scorned.

Sherlock gave a glance at John before dismissing him in an arrogant fashion.

"How else am I supposed to pass the time? There hasn't been a single worthwhile case in a long time." Sherlock's voice trailed off.

John began to argue about the health risks of his flat mate's lifestyle, but his voice was interrupted by the sound of the downstairs door knocking.

"Who's that?" asked John.

"I neither know nor care. Probably just some canvasser, not worth our time." Mostly out of maintaining his momentary grudge, John decided to answer the call.

"Trick or treat!" yelled some a neat bunch of children dressed up as witches, wizards and vampires.

"Oh," John realized what day of the year it was "It's Halloween isn't it."
He felt terrible for having to disappoint them, but he had to be honest. "I haven't got anything for you, I didn't know it was Halloween. Sorry." He felt the guilt hit him as the children wandered off with saddened expressions.

"What was that about?" asked Sherlock.

"Some trick or treaters."

"Some- Sorry what?" asked Sherlock.

"Trick or treaters, it's Halloween." John replied casually.

"What's Halloween?" asked Sherlock.

"You're kidding!" John laughed out of sheer amusement.

"No, I'm serious. What is Halloween?"

John just laughed.

"You know what, I'll show you."

John spent the next thirty minutes gathering together pieces of random clothing around the flat to use for rather amusing Zombie costume for Sherlock. Sherlock spent most of the time questioning the purpose of the costume and door-knocking, but John knew that he had been personally deprived of childhood experiences, and he always did his best to give Sherlock some form of a childhood. It was silly for someone of their age to be dressing up, but John didn't mind, he was having more fun than he'd had in a long time.
