A/N: This fic is the product of watching all the Bones episodes with Sully in, in one sitting. It was a long haul cos I really hate that man but you have to give him his dues. I think he helped our favourite G-man realise a few things, so he's ok doesn't mean I have to like him. Anyway, enjoy.
Disclaimer: Quotes from Bones series 2. Title worked on by my brother. Chris, you are my wall which I bounce things off. And they are generally spiky and pointy. hehe
Touched Forever'When you can't stop thinking about someone when they're not around, that's not a fling. When you remember their touch like they were still next to you. That's not a fling.'
Brennan sat alone in her office after Sully left, just thinking. She knew that what he said made sense but she also didn't think that it applied to her and him. True when she was with him she felt special, felt loved but a few hours later she didn't feel warm anymore. She felt cold, didn't feel his touch hours later, didn't feel his fingers flitting over her body, didn't feel his lips on her skin. So she wondered, did she think that all she had with Sully was a fling? She definitely needed that time alone he suggested; if only to think, if only to wonder.
When Sully left she didn't really feel anything heartbreakingly despairing. Sure watching him sail off was sad, but not heartbreaking. Although she did draw more comfort than she let on from Booths presence.
Hours later, lying alone in bed she tried to draw some form of comfort from her own imagination. She tried to imagine one of Sully's hugs or embraces but couldn't. Instead her mind bought up images of when Booth had hugged her after various cases, how they clung to each other desperately after he found her bound and gagged. The way he said her name 'Temperance' after they found her mothers' remains. As she wrapped his arms around herself feeling Booth's touch she drifted off to sleep, Booths words from earlier in her head.
'All that stuff that you think never happens. It happens. You just gotta be ready for it.'
