Stephanie Plum worked for RangeMan and had for almost 5 years. But she and Ranger had split and rarely ever spoke to each other since Ranger moved to Miami. They split mainly because she wanted a committed relationship but Ranger decided he still did not want any kind of relationship.

Yeah, they had lived together for 2 years and he thinks they are not in a relationship? Then she must only be his convenient fuck buddy! He chose to leave along with his family, who moved back to Miami due to health problems that needed full time care. Stephanie didn't blame him for that choice so she stayed on in Trenton.

Manny was working the desk when a strange man walked into the lobby asking to speak to Stephanie Plum. He admitted he did not have an appointment. His ID card said he was Lieutenant Horatio Caine of Miami Police Department.

Manny immediately thought Stephanie was in grave danger if the Miami Police had come looking for her. Manny was confused because Stephanie had not been to Miami in over two years.

"Could I please speak to Miss Plum." The stranger asked.

"I am sorry but she is not in the building at the moment. Is there someone else you wish to speak too?"

"Can I leave my card for her? I have a possible job offer for her."

"I will give it to her when she comes in."

"Thank you. Could you also give her this folder? It details my proposal for her to check out."

"I will give it to her as soon as she comes in."

Horatio left the building. But he had done his homework like any good cop. Horatio used his GPS and drove to Pino's, which he knew was one of her hangouts.

He went inside and sat at an out of the way table.

Ten minutes later Stephanie walked in and went to a table with a man in a RangeMan uniform. Must be her partner or bodyguard. Why does she even need a bodyguard?

The two ordered and they were busy talking. The next thing Horatio knew there were 4 other huge men at the table with her. She looked like she was holding court. Horatio finished his own meal and then walked over to Stephanie's table.

"Stephanie, I left my card with the man at the RangeMan's lobby desk along with a folder of a job proposal I would like to offer you."

Stephanie stood up. "Horatio!" She hugged him.

The men were shocked and caught off guard. Who was this man? What does he want with our Stephanie?

"Horatio, sit down. Can we get you anything?"

"No thank you. I don't want to intrude."

"You aren't. Here sit down." Stephanie started introducing Horatio to the men at the table. "This is Horatio Caine. He works at Miami PD CSI team. What brings you to Trenton, Horatio?"

"You do."

"Me?"

" Yes. I need your help. I would like to borrow you for a month or so and we have two very important cold cases we are reopening. These cold cases are where two of our own has been murdered, a year apart. We want some new eyes to look at the information and see if they can find us a new lead. I am thinking of retiring but I don't want to leave the force and not get justice for my men. I remembered you have what you call "Spidey Senses" the last time we worked together. We could use your help."

"Horatio, I would have to have Tank's permission for this kind of a leave."

"I realize that. But I also have a man working with us that is a trained Profiler and he is willing to help instruct you in his methods. Maybe you could bring that information back to your cases here if you are willing?"

"How about we go back to RangeMan and talk to Tank. This sounds like something I would enjoy learning."

"What about Ranger?" Lester asked.

"Horatio, I used to date Ranger, who founded this company. When we broke up 3 years ago. He moved to RangeMan in Miami. That is why Lester asked."

"Strange, we have worked closely with RangeMan and no one has even mentioned Ranger. I only work with the normal RangeMen operatives and Antonio."

"No matter. I won't be in Miami to see him anyway."

"Horatio, meet me at RangeMan. Then I will take you to meet Tank. You and him can discuss this offer you have. Is that alright?"

"Yes."

"Come on, Hal. We need to go back to the office. Horatio here has me intrigued."

"Alright, Bomber. Nice to meet you Mr. Caine."

"Call me, Horatio. You called her "bomber" why?"

"She has a habit of blowing up cars and has fire bombers who destroy her apartments."

"Sounds like she lives an exciting life."

"Not in my book it is not!"

"Maybe I should have said "scary life?"

They turned to leave and Joe Morelli was just walking in.

"Cupcake, are you leaving?"

"Joe, I have told you a million times to stop calling me that disgusting name!"

"I think it is cute. Just like you are."

Joe tried to put his arm around her waist to pull her to him.

Stephanie was in immediate Rhino Mode.

She swept one leg out from underneath him. She had him on the ground in seconds. Stephanie put her foot on the jewel area and pressed down high heels and all.

"Morelli, for the last time my name is Stephanie to you! Next time maybe I will use some of Hector's sleeper moves on you. So for the last time drop the "cupcake" references. You are pissing me off. That and it will only get worse if you do not learn to listen to me!"

Stephanie turned away and looked over her shoulder at the crowd.

She addressed the crowd. "If this is YOUR version of Trenton's finest then people you and our whole city is in trouble!"

The crowd got real silent and went back to their meals.

Horatio tried hard not to crack a smile. Talk about Feisty!

Back at RangeMan they waited until Horatio had parked in the visitors parking lot and walked to the front door.

"I take it that man has a history with you?" Horatio asked Stephanie.

"Yes, Our history goes back to when I was six. But I do not want to get into it. Let's just say he can not take "NO" for an answer."

"I will say it was comical to watch. Is he a cop?"

"He is a homicide detective. But let's go talk to Tank."

"I will follow you."

"Manny, this is Horatio Caine. We will be in Tank's office."

"OK, Wifey."

They go to the elevator.

"Wifey?" Horatio asked quizzically.

"We were an undercover couple once and the nickname stuck. But I don't mind it."

"You live a colorful life around here. Here I thought Miami had a corner on that market."

"Trenton, is a little bit like Miami just not as much action."

The elevator stopped and Stephanie led Horatio to the Communication Center.

Horatio liked their set up.

Stephanie knocked on Tank's door.

"Enter".

Tank, this is Horatio Caine. He is from Miami PD's CSI team. He wants to make me an offer. I told him it would require your approval."

"Nice to meet you. Sit down. So you want to steal our Stephanie from us? Better be a very good reason for me to agree with that."

"Tank? Is that a nickname?"

"Yes, sir. Partly because of my size but mostly it was a nickname given to me in the Rangers. Stephanie says you have an offer for her?"

"I would like to take her to Miami for at least a month. We have 2 cold case murders of two of our own that are 2 years cold. They have never been solved. The last time Stephanie was in Miami she saw a cold case file I was working on and noticed three points none of us had noticed. Because of that we were able to find the killer. He has been sentenced to life without parole. Thanks to Stephanie we were able to tell the murdered men's family that the man will not hurt anyone outside the prison walls as long as he lives. I don't like the word 'closure' because it doesn't bring back their loved one. So the wound will always be open. But I don't want them to fear the perpetrator either. I would like these cases solved before I retire."

"You think it will take her that long to solve the cases?"

"Well, there is a criminal profiler that works with us and he knows of Stephanie's exploits here in Trenton. He suggested while she was there she could work with him. He is willing to teach her some profiling tricks that could help you solve some of the crimes back here in Trenton."

"Is this something you would like to do, Stephanie?"

"I have never tried to solve cases before but I am not against it either. But my fear is...Tank...you know how often things happen around me. What if I go and things get out of hand down there?"

"Horatio, this girl is a trouble magnet. She does not start the trouble but it sure finds her. She will have to have a bodyguard while she is there."

"Well, I thought about keeping her in the office. I also know she gets bored easily so I thought about pairing her with Calleigh Duquesne and have Calleigh teach her some of our CSI tactics and when she needs to go in the field I will have Eric Delko as her bodyguard as well. Plus I am on the scene most of the time."

"Stephanie, it will be up to you. Is this something you would like to try?"

"I would but what about my responsibilities here?"

"Would it be any different than when one of us goes in the wind? We all pitch in and get the job done."

"I would have to find a place to stay because I refuse to ask RangeMan of Miami for an apartment because of Ranger."

"I have an extra bedroom if you would like to stay with me." Horatio added.

"I appreciate the offer but no thanks. It would lead to too much gossip. Tank can tell you my life here in the Burg is the fodder that keeps the gossip machine in full swing."

"Megan Donner is out of the country on assignment. I could check with her to see if you could stay at her apartment. It is only 10 blocks from where you will be working."

"If she wouldn't mind. I like that option. I would be willing to pay her rent or whatever."

"Let me call her."

Horatio dials a number.

Megan answers. "Megan, Horatio. I am in Trenton talking with Stephanie Plum about coming to help us solve the 2 cold cases which are the 2 murders of our own. I was wondering if you would mind letting her spend a month in your apartment while you are gone?"

"If you need it H. I have no objections. You still have my key, don't you?"

"Yes."

"Then tell her to be my guest. I will let you know if I will be coming home early."

"Thanks, Megan." Horatio hangs up.

"Megan says you can use her apartment no problem."

"What do you think, Tank?"

"Frankly, I am a little skeptical. I know your history. They are not used to the kind of trouble you attract."

"But I will be inside most of the time. Right, Horatio?"

"Yes. Since this is my idea you will be sharing an office with me."

"Will I still have to carry a gun?"

"It is preferred but since you are not a regular PD officer it can be waived."

"I carry one because RangeMan requires it. I don't like them though."

"I have carried one since I was in my teens. Even before I reached legal age. But Miami is different than Trenton in that respect."

"How much time do you need Tank to set this up?"

" Probably two days. We have to assign guys to get your skips and also someone to fill in for the research part."

"Is that soon enough for you, Horatio?"

" Sure. I honestly thought I would get a bigger fight."

"Most of us have been in the military. Most of us have been Special Ops. We are used to our members being called away for different lengths of time. But you will find out Stephanie here is very special to us. Losing her, even for a month, will upset the whole company."

"Tank, do me a favor."

"What is that Steph?"

"Don't tell Ranger."

"Why would I?"

"Just so you could have an extra set of eyes on me."

"Tank, who is this Ranger you and Stephanie talk about? I deal with Antonio and his men but I have never dealt with Ranger."

"Ranger, started RangeMan then he expanded here to Trenton to be close to his family. They moved back to Miami and so did he."

"Yes, but Ranger didn't leave Trenton until he and I split 3 years ago. But, Tank, do you know why he is in hiding? He wasn't hiding when he was here. Nor did he have to worry about running into me in Miami."

"Let me check with Antonio and see if he knows why Ranger is hiding."

"Thank you for loaning Stephanie to the CSI Lab. Who knows she might like what we do and come back to Trenton and start a CSI Lab right here."

"Funny you should mention that because she suggested it before Ranger left and he flatly denied her request. I will leave that option open if you think it would help us some Stephanie."

"I will leave you guys alone and I will pick you up here on Wednesday, Stephanie, I will have your plane ticket with me so just bring your bags and we will start us a new journey."

"I will look forward to it, Horatio."

"As will I."

Horatio stands to leave. He shakes hands with Tank and Stephanie. Tank opens the door. Tank asks Lester to show Horatio out.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Stephanie?"

"I am all for anything that may help RangeMan. If I can learn some profiling tips maybe we can solve some of the cases here we don't understand."

"What if you run into Ranger?"

"We are not a couple any more so I guess we are still friends. I will know to stay clear of him."

"That is what worries me. If he has been keeping to himself that could spell trouble if he finds out you are in town."

"That is a possibility. But, Tank, I can not live my life out of fear of what Ranger will do. Besides you men have taught me to think before I act. Not to mention if I don't go then he is still controlling my life. That would mean I didn't learn anything from this experience. I am better than I was so I want to try this new experience."

"Alright, then let us throw you a going away party at Pino's?"

"Wouldn't that be fodder for the gossip mongers?"

"Maybe, but hey at least you can thumb your nose at them because they will have lost their number one gossip topic."

"On that reason alone I will agree. Six O'clock because most normal Burg women are at home serving supper."

"I will tell the men."

Stephanie leaves to go start packing.

Horatio watches her leave and follows her.

Stephanie goes to her apartment and does not notice she has a tail. Horatio was fascinated with this spunky girl. He has been fascinated with her since he met her a couple years ago.

The truth is. He got permission to make a job for her. Horatio's reason was so he could spend some time with her and to see if there would be any chemistry between them.

He realized he was lonely and Stephanie was a breath of fresh air from the ladies of Miami. Most of the women he had met wanted the prestige of being seen on his arm. Their interest was only skin deep. Horatio wanted something more substantial.

True, he was looking for a woman to replace Marisol. But after 4 years Horatio thought that he had given grieving enough time. He wanted to feel those caring and loving feelings again.

Stephanie went to the apartment and packed her bags.

Supper time rolled around and Stephanie drove to Pino's.

Horatio did not want to be spotted so he parked where he could watch her car.

Inside Pino's the Merry Men filled the place.

They placed their orders and were reminiscing about some of Stephanie's escapades.

These men were going to truly miss her.

Everyone knew but was afraid of her having a run in with Ranger. The man must be dangerous from the vibes Horatio was getting.

The evening just got a dose of cold water when Joe Morelli walked in.

Joe walked up to Stephanie.

"What is the celebration for?"

"Stephanie is leaving town for a month for some unique training." Lester said.

"Finally, going to get trained, huh?"

"Yes, by Miami Dade Police."

"Right! Come on, Cupcake. You really want me to believe any Police Department would want you hanging around? Maybe you guys need to have her committed. I have heard it all now."

"Just get lost Morelli. I don't need your kind ruining my going away party. Leave before I call the real cops and have you escorted out of here."

"Like they could force me into anything."

Stephanie picked up her phone and dialed the non-emergency number.

"Oh, hi Robin. Morelli is here at Pino's. He will not leave me alone. Could you send someone here to get him out of my face before I use my skills to lay him out cold!"

"Alright, Stephanie. Tell Mr. Macho that either he leaves or I will put him on report for conduct unbecoming of a police officer."

"Robin says to tell you either you leave or she will put you on report for conduct unbecoming a police officer."

"Tell her to go ahead. No one will do anything about it anyway. "

"Did you hear that, Robin?"

"Yeah! Not to mention that the tape did too. Carl and Big Dog should be right outside."

"They are coming in right now. Thanks, Robin."

"Want me to send you the paperwork to file the charge?"

"Not necessary, I will be gone tomorrow. I leave for Miami for a month of training with Miami Dade Police. So I won't be here for him to pick on."

"Wow! You go Stephanie."

"Yes, I am going to be working with the CSI team."

"You mean you are going to be working with Horatio Caine?"

"He asked Tank's permission. So yes I will be working under Horatio."

"Damn, girl! Aren't you the lucky one?"

"Carl and Big Dog have Joe outside. He looks animated. Oh, well good bye, good riddance."

"Let me know if he gives you any more trouble."

"Will do, Robin. I will send you a postcard when I get there."

"Thanks, Stephanie enjoy yourself."

"Bye, Robin".

The guys are about to bust out laughing.

Carl and Big Dog finally convince Joe to leave before they had to arrest him.

Joe drives away.

Carl and Big Dog go inside to talk to Stephanie.

"Joe is gone. He said you were leaving us?"

"Only for a month. Horatio Caine wants me to check out 2 cold cases to see if my Spidey Senses can come up with anything. The cases are 2 murdered policemen 2 years apart."

"Wow! I didn't know you had that type of reputation."

"I didn't either but who am I to argue with Miami?"

"Let us know when you get back."

"I sure will. I feel sorry you two have to stay and deal with Mr. Macho."

"Stephanie, don't you know anyone with the title Italian Stallion could never live up to the hype! I think he keeps that title alive so the Burg "thinks" he is. Then no one finds out he can't live up to the title."

Stephanie laughs at Big Dog. "You maybe right. Thanks, boys."

Departure day arrives and Ella had to have the last say. When Stephanie arrived at work there was a banner over the doorway. "We love you, Stephanie!"

Stephanie and Horatio both were surprised by it.

They went up to Tank's office.

"Who put up the banner?" Stephanie asked.

"Ella!"

"Then I better tell her good bye or she will not speak to me any more. I will be right back Horatio."

"Horatio, the core team and I have one request of you. Can you please warn your people about Ricardo Carlos Manoso. His street name is Ranger. If this man is in hiding for what ever reason he could be very dangerous especially if he has just come home from a Special Ops mission."

"Then you honestly think she will need a bodyguard?"

"We do. Do you think you could get permission for one? The bodyguard would have to know how to handle a man who is Special Ops."

"I will talk to Frank Tripp and I am sure he will find someone."

"That girl is the soul of this company. She has kept our customers happy even before Ranger left. I don't think there is a man here who isn't in love with her. We don't want her hurt."

"I will do my best to take good care of her. I met her a couple years ago. I know she was able to help me see that there was life after the murder of my wife. It is partly because of her that I am still in the same job. So I will watch out for her very closely."

"Stephanie also has very low self-esteem and this town is always putting her down yet her capture rate is 99%. Better than most policemen can say."

"I promise to watch her closely."

"Call me if you need advice because for some reason she attracts stalkers and crazies like a strong magnet."

"I will tell my colleagues so they can watch out for her also."

"I am back. Are you ready, Horatio?"

"I am. Thank you, Tank."

"Enjoy yourself, Baby Girl! Just don't get too comfortable down there."

Stephanie hugged Tank. Tank had a sinking feeling but he tried to hide the fact he did not want her to leave.

Horatio shook Tank's hand and escorted Stephanie out the door.

They drove to the airport and got checked in.

"Would you like something to eat, Stephanie?"

"No thank you. My stomach wouldn't handle it. I have a fear of flying. I have never flown without Ranger or one of the Merry Men with me. I am just too skiddish."

"I will hold your hand if that will help."

"I would appreciate it. I promise I will try not to be too much of a fraidy cat."

"There is nothing to it. But your ticket is for a seat in the middle. Would you prefer my window seat?"

"No, thank you. If I realize how high up I am it just might freak me out."

"You will be fine."

Their flight was announced and Horatio put his hand on the small of her back. This way he let her know he was there for her.

They boarded and they were in first class section. It had more room to move around than coach.

The plane lifted off and Horatio held her hand in his and smiled at her.

Horatio liked how just touching her made him feel alive again.

Stephanie felt reassured to some degree.

She and Horatio played catch up on their lives since they last saw each other. Horatio found out about the split between her and Ranger. Horatio also told her that Calleigh and Eric were an item. They had a tight rope to walk because of rules and regulations about dating co-workers.

Before Stephanie knew it the pilot announced they would be landing in 5 minutes and to buckle their seat belts.

"Thank you for keeping me occupied, Horatio."

"My pleasure."

They debarked from the plane and went to claim their baggage.

Stephanie spotted both Eric and Calleigh.

Calleigh gave her a big hug and so did Eric.

"I hope you like Miami." Eric said.

"I hope so too."

"She will be staying in Megan's apartment while she is here." Horatio said.

"Good you are only one floor above mine so hopefully we can all three spend some time together. " Eric said.

"That sounds like fun."

Horatio picked up his and Stephanie's bags. Eric led them to the car which was parked just outside the terminal. (Police courtesy no doubt).

Eric dropped Horatio off at his place and they drove Stephanie to Megan's apartment. Eric used the key Horatio had given him then handed it to Stephanie.

Stephanie was shocked at the splendor of the apartment. It would make six of her apartment!

Eric made sure she did not need anything before Calleigh and he went to his apartment.

Stephanie got settled in and called Tank.

"I made it safely. This apartment is gorgeous and would make six of mine!"

"Keep your wits about you. Be on guard until you get to know your surroundings."

"I will. Horatio said he would get me a rental car tomorrow. That way I can explore if I like."

"Stephanie, I am glad you are spreading your wings. Just be careful because we love and miss you already."

"I miss you too, Tank. Any word on Ranger?"

"Antonio has not returned my call. I will have to do some further checking."

"This is not like Ranger."

"No it isn't. Something smells fishy. Don't you worry about Ranger he can take care of himself."

"I know. I will keep in touch, Tank."

"Call me if you need anything."

"I will. Bye, Tank."

"Bye, Baby Girl."

Stephanie was ready when Eric knocked on her door the next morning. Eric drove her to work. It was the first time she had ever rode in a Hummer. Eric also told her that the newer ones were bullet proof all the way around.

That made Stephanie feel a little safer. Shades of Ranger was her first thought.

Eric stopped at the front desk and ask Miriam for Stephanie's ID badge.

Eric thanked Miriam. Eric then showed Stephanie where the elevators were and punched in for the third floor.

The doors opened and Calleigh and Horatio were there to meet her.

Horatio took her to his office. It wasn't as big as Stephanie thought it might be but there were two desks and two laptops so she figured out this is where she would be working.

Horatio showed her how to get into their system and he even had a booklet with all the information she would need on their search engines so she could figure her way around the system.

Horatio called Frank Tripp and had him to bring Stephanie her first box of evidence.

Frank knocked then entered the office with a sealed box.

Horatio showed Stephanie how they handled the evidence.

The box contained four 3" binders full of reports and statements.

"I thought you could start by reading the reports so you can get a feel for the story from the beginning."

"Now I see why you weren't afraid of my going out. This will take a while to read through all of these reports.

"Do you need anything to drink while you read?"

"No, thank you."

"If you do here is the extension list so just call one of us and we will show you where the vending machines are."

"Thank you so much. I just hope I can come across something to help you."

Stephanie spent 3 hours reading about the first case.

Stephanie had 2 pages of questions for the investigators.

Horatio came into the office and asked Stephanie if she was hungry.

Stephanie decided she wasn't yet. She went back to her reading.

Stephanie was reading a police officer's report and something struck her as odd. The police report and the supporting documents showed the timing was off.

The police dispatch log says the officer was notified at 8:11 am but the police officer said he didn't get the call until 10:30 am. Whose times are right? Why is there almost 2 hour discrepancies?

Stephanie paged Horatio.

Horatio came into the room.

"What did you find?"

"There is a time discrepancy between the dispatch and the police officer responding. Almost 2 hours worth."

"That shouldn't be."

Stephanie showed Horatio the documents. He also noticed the written time discrepancy.

Horatio went to his computer and checked into the microfiche library. He then called someone to bring him the microfiche from that day.

They played the recording and found out the call was not dispatched when the dispatcher said it was.

The tape revealed that is was 10:30 am when the dispatcher notified the police officer. Why the delay? Who was she covering for? Why?

Stephanie continued to dig through the reports. Stephanie found out that the police officers roster showed only 6 out of the 8 officers were ever interviewed.

Why were 2 officers ignored?

Stephanie decided to use her RangeMan search engines to run all the names on the roster. Then match them to the Police searches.

The two officers who were NOT interviewed were later fired for falsifying reports only 3 weeks after the first murder. Talk about suspicious!

Are they in cahoots in both murders? Stephanie decided to delve into the facts further. There were several points which are pointing to a conspiracy!

When Stephanie found out that connections she pointed them out to Horatio.

Horatio was shocked! But Tank's word rung in his ears. "Trouble will find her."

Horatio then talked to Frank Tripp about putting her in a safe house. This could blow up into a fiasco. Stephanie needed to be protected...NOW!

Horatio and Frank contacted the Chief and and they all decided that Stephanie needed 24/7 protection. They also called Tank and told him of the possible trouble.

Tank suggested they contact Antonio.

Antonio gave them one of their safe houses with 24/7 bodyguards.

But Antonio also told Tank that he would not tell Ranger. It seems as if Ranger was injured on his last mission and Ranger chose to stay inside the building with no reason given.

They felt he was stable but just was choosing to hide for some reason and even the psychiatrist felt he was stable but there was something in his past he refused to face and they said he would face it in his own time.

They also felt he was no danger to himself or to others so Ranger just handles the paperwork and stays in the penthouse.

Horatio explained to Stephanie why they had to move her. It was for her own safety before it got out in the grapevine that she had uncovered something.

Stephanie agreed to the move. But she asked that Hal be sent down to help. She trusted his judgments. Hal flew to Miami.

The safe house was secluded and well guarded.

The evidence boxes were photocopied so none of the real evidence actually left the archives and the boxes were resealed.

Stephanie worked long hours reading and comparing the reports. She wound up with another 2 pages of coincidences.

About a week after Stephanie started she noticed that the two over looked officers had substantial deposits in their bank accounts, which she found using RangeMan searches and did not show up in the police searches.

Stephanie called Horatio and he was brought to the house.

Stephanie showed Horatio the differences between the two searches and what RangeMan searches had found.

Both men had exactly the same $10,000 deposits on the same day the first murdered police officer was buried. Also another identical $10,000 deposit after the second murder.

Horatio called the Chief of Police and had him to come to the safe house.

When showed the discrepancies, the deposits and the lack of interviews the Chief then ordered Miami PD to try to track down these two men.

Stephanie had already located one of the men and he lived within 2 miles of the Police Department.

The Chief ordered SWAT to find and bring him in for questioning.

The Chief was surprised at how lacking the Police search engines were compared to RangeMan's engines.

Antonio sent their computer expert to discuss what type of searches the Police would need and hopefully they could come up with some new search engines for which would be as good as or to similar to those at RangeMan.

Three days later they found the first man. When his house was searched they found evidence that the man, Samuel Burrows, had the first murdered officer's service revolver.

The murdered officer's weapon had never been recovered before now.

They also found information that links Samuel to the second suspect, Brian Willows, the second fired police officer.

The Police located Brian thanks to RangeMan searches. Brian was also wanted as a fugitive out of New York already. They had two addresses on his bond papers.

The SWAT team got him on their first try.

The search warrant also turned up evidence of both murders.

The evidence showed that the two murdered policemen were being bribed by local gangs to conceal drug deals.

The policemen were paid to look the other way and they were paid to keep quiet.

One week before the murders a large drug drop was expected and the drug dealers thought the men were getting too greedy so they eliminated both when a local gang was recruited to provide protection at a cheaper price.

The gang's protection allowed the drug dealers to widen their territory and made more money for them in the process.

Hal suggested that the Police change their records to show one of Stephanie's aliases to protect her when the story hit the news.

Horatio thought even that was too dangerous. So they gave her a band new ID that if was run would trigger red flags with both the Miami Police and also ALL government agencies.

The news had a field day with how some unknown profiler (used to cover Stephanie's involvement) was able to solve the two murders that had plagued the Police for years. No name was given.

The reporters were surprised at how much info was still located after all these years. The reporters stated that the men involved held onto the info as a trophy but which also sealed their fates.

The Police also were able to trace the gang's involvements and a total of 12 people were finally charged in the murders and on various other charges.

Four of the men, the men mostly involved, were charged with murder of a police officer and each of them were charged with 4 counts of murder and sentenced to life without parole.

Stephanie was tying up all the loose ends of the case when Horatio asked her to be his date for the Policeman's Ball.

Since she was planning on leaving in four days after the ball she saw no reason to refuse Horatio's offer.

Calleigh and Stephanie went dress shopping.

Stephanie got to see parts of Miami that she had never seen before.

Calleigh knew of a private designer who she had used before. They went to see Marcy Barnes. Marcy had several ideas for both ladies.

Calleigh chose an emerald fitted gown with pearls stitched on the bodice that fit her thereby showing off all the right curves.

Marcy knew immediately which one would work for Stephanie.

She went into the back room and brought out a deep sapphire satin A-line. It had prism sequins scattered all over the dress which sparkled when the light caught them.

Once Stephanie tried it on it fit like a glove and Stephanie was shocked at how good it looked on her. She chose it without even trying on anything else.

Horatio had an idea of having Calleigh and Stephanie make a TV advertisement for the Policeman's Ball. After all it was a fund raiser for the Police Department.

The girls saw no reason why not. So they got all dressed up in their gowns and promoted the Ball.

The advertisement was ran on all local stations. The ad also mentioned that Stephanie was a bounty hunter visiting from New Jersey where she was known as the Bombshell Bomber and that she had a 99% capture rate.

The ad said maybe she could teach the police in Miami some tricks. Not knowing that she was the one who found the clues to the two murderers.

Friday night during the 10 O'clock news Ranger happened to see the ad.

He sat straight up in bed. He stared at the ad and he decided he needed to talk to Stephanie again.

Ranger went to his closet and found his Armani Suit that would match the color of the dress she would be wearing.

Ranger once again felt like he was alive.

Ranger still did not tell anyone what he was planning.

The Policeman's Ball was held at the Convention Center and was being secured by RangeMan.

The night of the Ball when all the regular RangeMen had left for the Convention Center Ranger used a little used door to exit the RangeMan building. He drove to the Convention Center.

He produced his RangeMan's Badge to the doorman. He was let in without a ticket.

Ranger handed the man a $300 donation.

Ranger tried to stay in the background of the crowd until he spotted Stephanie on Horatio's arm.

He never took his eyes off her. She looked so gorgeous to his eyes. Ranger also noticed that Hal was close by as her bodyguard.

Stephanie and Calleigh were at a table signing autographs for a donation.

Stephanie was smiling and enjoying herself when all of a sudden she shivered.

"Hal?"

"Yes, Steph."

"Check the crowd."

"Someone suspicious?"

"No, I feel like Ranger is close by. The hairs on my neck are standing up."

"Alright. Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Hal leaves and starts scanning the immediate area but couldn't find Ranger.

Ranger notices the shiver and he quickly hides behind a billboard until Hal moves past him.

The music starts and Calleigh leaves the table to dance with Eric.

Horatio comes and invites Stephanie to dance.

Stephanie accepted his arm and they go to the dance floor.

They dance three dances and Horatio tells her he is so proud of her not to mention how gorgeous she was.

They decide to go find their table.

It was time for the meal to be served and Ranger stayed in the darkness of the room to hide and watch "his" girl.

After the meal more music was started with a live band this time.

Horatio led Stephanie to the dance floor for a waltz number.

Halfway through the dance Ranger tapped Horatio on the shoulder.

"May I cut in?"

Horatio turned then checked with Stephanie for approval.

"It is alright, Horatio. This is Ranger."

"Treat her right or you will find the rough side of me."

"I promise no harm will come to her."

Stephanie steps into Ranger's arms.

"How have you been, Babe?"

"Healthy."

"Are you still mad at me?"

"Somewhat but mainly I don't understand why you have been hiding."

"Health reasons."

"Are you alright now?"

"That will be up to you."

"Why me?"

"I don't want to discuss it here. Will you let me take you away from the crowd and I will explain it to you."

"I am Horatio's date. This wouldn't be fair to him."

"I understand."

"Wait! I will go with you but I want to explain to Horatio that I am doing this of my own free will."

"I agree with that."

Ranger and Stephanie walk over to Horatio's table.

"Horatio, Ranger needs to talk to me. I promise I will be back and I know he won't hurt me."

"Remember, you hurt her and I will bring the whole police force down on you."

"I understand. I promise I will never hurt her."

"Alright."

Ranger leads Stephanie to a dark corner with a free table.

"Babe, after you left I lost my mind. I deliberately took on a suicide mission. It was fubared from the beginning. I lost 5 men on that mission. I felt it was all my fault or taking a mission where I knew I could die. I did see the shrink when I got back but it didn't help. I had lost you. Then add when my mind added the loss of 5 men because of my own failure I became a recluse. I chose to hide because I felt like I wasn't worthy to even be alive. I couldn't make you happy and I felt like I was murderer of 5 men."

"Why are you coming out now?"

"Babe, I saw you on that TV ad for this Ball. I knew I had to talk to you again."

"What do you want from me, Ranger?"

"I have no right to ask anything of you. But Babe, can you forgive me for treating you like you didn't matter to me? I have never stopped loving you."

"Ranger, I have never stopped loving you either. But with your mind thinking you murdered 5 men you really should try some more mental health. I do not blame you for those men's death. Their death is because of the lousy government intel."

"Babe, If you can't forgive me then getting mental health is not worth the effort."

"Ranger, don't you realize? You can not hate someone and forgive them at the same time?"

"What are you telling me?"

"Ranger, I can not love you and hate you at the same time. I have always told you that will love you always. Love overrules hate any day. What ever you have been through is horrible but I will stand by you because I truly love you."

"Thank you, Babe. I don't like feeling like this. Would you be willing to go back to us talking to each other? I always told you that grounded me. Without you in my life I feel like I am hopelessly lost."

"Do you have my phone number?"

"No."

Stephanie takes out a piece of paper and writes her phone number on it.

"Call me tomorrow. You and I will set up a time to meet. I promise to hear you out. But right now I need to get back to my date."

"Thank you, Babe."

Stephanie put her hand on his.

"Ranger, promise me you won't do anything stupid until we talk at length."

"I promise you, Babe. I need you."

"Call me tomorrow and I will meet you."

"Thank you, Babe."

Ranger stands up and escorts her back to Horatio.

"Thank you for letting me borrow Stephanie. I will leave you two alone."

Horatio was skeptical of his behavior.

"Are you alright, Stephanie?"

"Yes, Horatio."

"What did he want?"

"Just to talk. He will call me tomorrow."

"Is he safe to be around?"

"I think so. But I really need to talk to Hal."

Horatio used his communication mike to have the security find Hal and send him to Horatio's table.

Hal came over to the table.

Stephanie was sitting down. Hal knew immediate something was wrong. The look on her face told Hal that it was if she had seen a ghost.

"Are you alright?"

"Yes. Ranger was here."

Hal fell into the nearest chair.

"What did he want?"

"He wants to talk to me. His last mission was a suicide mission. He lost 5 men and I think he lost part of his mind. He told me that he felt he had lost me. Then when he lost the 5 men he hasn't been able to cope with it. He told me I grounded him and he just wants to talk to me."

"Is he dangerous?"

"No. But he is emotionally broken."

"And you want to help him?"

"Hal, I love him. Yes, I want to help him!"

"Do you want me to be there too?"

"No. He will sense if you are too close by."

"Stephanie, I don't think this is the smartest move."

"I have to help him!"

"Just let me know where you will be meeting and I will try to watch your back."

"OK."

Stephanie is spaced out the rest of the evening.

Horatio is worried about her. This Ranger man has put her in a daze.

Horatio tells Stephanie he needs to check on something.

Horatio calls Antonio.

They meet at a location in the building known to them both.

Horatio tells Antonio that Ranger was here and he shook up Stephanie.

Antonio checked with the crew back at RangeMan and found out Ranger was back at RangeMan.

Antonio told Horatio that Ranger was back at the Base building. Ranger did not know that Stephanie was at the safe house unless one of the men had told him.

Stephanie would be safe for tonight. The safe house was monitored 24/7.

Horatio went back to Stephanie.

Horatio gave her time to regain her composure.

Horatio once again asked her to dance.

Horatio felt better with her in his arms. This is where he was the one in control.

They danced a few dances and Stephanie asked to sit down.

Somehow this night was not turning out like Horatio planned.

At the end of the night Horatio drove her to the safe house.

Hal followed them to the house and Hal settled in for the night.

At 2 am Stephanie's phone rang.

She answered it "Hello?"

"Stephanie, it is Antonio. I just wanted you to know that Ranger was just taken to the hospital."

Stephanie sat straight up in bed.

"Why?"

"We found Ranger unconscious still dressed in his suit. We aren't sure what caused it but I knew you would want to know."

"Where did they take him?"

"James, one of the outside guards is on his way inside to take you to Ranger."

"Is he alive?"

"Yes,"

"I will be on my way."

"Stephanie, I have never seen my brother this far out of it. I am scared."

"Antonio, I was scared when I was talking to him tonight also. Mentally he has put himself in a cocoon."

"I hope you can reach him."

"I will try my best. Thanks for calling Antonio."

"See you soon."

Stephanie put on a pair of jeans and a sweater and headed downstairs as James was coming in the door.

Stephanie and James left for the hospital.

Stephanie was shown into Ranger's room and she sat by his bed.

Ranger was not responding to any stimuli.

Stephanie started talking to Ranger.

"Ranger, don't you dare leave me now! Do you hear me?"

No response.

"Ranger, I have told you before I loved you and I will stand beside you. Don't you dare run away from me now! Please Ranger! I love you. Come back to me I need you too. I heard a song tonight and it made me think of us.

His eyes flutter but do not open.

"Darling, I promise not to leave Miami until you come back to me. I want to see those gorgeous brown eyes of yours. Please open them for me. Please, Ranger! You promised me you would never turn me down when I said "Please". I want us to get back together. I am begging you. Please come home to me!" Her tears once again fell on his hand.

Stephanie could tell he was trying to open his eyes.

"You can do it. I have faith in you. Open those eyes just for me."

Ranger finally got his eyes open.

"Oh, Thank you, Darling. You had me so scared. I thought I had lost you."

Ranger shook his head "no".

Stephanie stood up and looked into his eyes.

"I love you, Batman." She smiled a him and then she kissed him.

Ranger's eyes popped open wide and there was a sparkle in them that showed her he appreciated that kiss and she kissed him again.

"I love you too, Babe."

"You scared us all what happened?"

"I came home and sat on the couch. I was crying. That was the last thing I remembered."

"Why were you crying?"

"I was afraid you would not meet me tomorrow. That would have meant I had lost you twice."

"But Ranger, have I ever lied to you?"

"No."

"I couldn't wait until tomorrow came just to be with you again."

"Is it tomorrow?"

"Almost it is about 4 am."

"Almost time for me to get up."

"You lay still! Let the doctors tell you when you can get up."

"See it is tomorrow."

"You mean to tell me you scared the crap out of me just so you could say it is tomorrow?"

Ranger smiled.

"No, didn't mean to."

Stephanie just shook her head but also couldn't stop the smile that showed up on her face. You got to love this man!

The doctor came into the room.

"Mr. Manoso, our test shows that you had a low blood sugar attack. A normal sugar is between 80 and 100. Yours was 24! When did you eat last?"

"I can't remember."

"Well we are giving you some glucose and that should bring it up nicely. We will send you home with a meter to check your sugar. You will need to keep a chart as to what it is so we will know if you are in trouble or not."

"He has a medic on staff at RangeMan so the medic will make sure it gets tested."

"Who might you be?"

"The name is Stephanie Plum and I am Carlos' girlfriend."

Ranger just smiled at the sound of those words.

"OK. Can you pass on the information to his medic that he needs to be tested four times a day and if there are any spikes we need to know about them."

"Yes, sir."

"Mr. Manoso, you should start feeling better soon. When your glucose counts gets within normal limits we will let you go home but under your Medic's care."

"Alright."

"Mr. Manoso, a sugar that low could have killed you."

Ranger looks at the doctor then looks at Stephanie and said "Batman never dies."

The doctor looks at him then over at Stephanie. "Care to explain that statement?"

"Doctor, I call him my Batman. He has saved my life so many times. He thinks he is invincible."

"Well, Batman, you must have stolen a life or two from some unsuspecting cats! But you will live to tell about it."

"Thank you, Doctor."

"Glad to help. It will take about a hour to feel normal again. You rest and we will check back to see how you are doing."

Ranger shook his head "yes".

An hour later Ranger was coherent and talking.

"Babe, will you go back to RangeMan with me?"

"No, but James is here and I am in a safe house of RangeMan. You could come home with me."

"But I thought I had to have my sugar checked."

"I know how to do the finger sticks...remember I used to test Grandma Mazur's at the end?"

"Oh, so you going to play nurse?"

"No, but I can do that job."

"Is Antonio here?"

"Outside in the waiting room."

"Can you get him for me?"

"Promise me you won't run away if I leave the room."

"Is there a guard on the door?

"Yes."

"Where do you expect me to run to?"

"I know how good you are with your disappearing acts."

"Babe, did you mean what you told me that you won't leave Miami until I come back to you?"

"I meant every word. My world is not worth living in if you are not my center."

"Then get Antonio and I want out of here. I want to go home with YOU!"

Stephanie opened the door and told the guard to get Antonio. She wasn't leaving this man alone for nobody or no reason!

Antonio came into Ranger's room.

"What happened, brother?"

"Doc says it was a low sugar attack. It almost killed me. I need to start watching my sugar levels. But part of it is I have not been eating properly. I lost 5 men on my watch and I feel like it is my fault and I just wasn't hungry."

"You have lost men before why did this one hit you so hard?"

"Every other mission I had Babe to come home but this time she wasn't here. I did not know she was in Miami until I saw the TV ad."

"I knew you cared for her but I never realized she meant that much to you."

"She is the only person except Grandma Rosa to even begin to calm me down."

"When are they going to release you?"

"As soon as my sugar level comes up. Stephanie tells me she is in one of our safe houses."

"Yes. There are some things you don't know about her stay in Miami."

"My question to you is there any reason I can not go to the safe house with her tonight?"

"That will be up to her and Horatio Caine. He is the one who ask for her protection."

"Babe, what have you gotten yourself into now?"

"I was brought her to help solve 2 unsolved murders of 2 police officer's. I was able to find a few leads and they did catch both of the murderers. But both murders are tied to some gangs dirty deeds. Horatio got me out of the city before anyone found out I was the one found the clues."

"Babe, only you could find this kind of trouble in a strange city."

"Antonio, I am the one who suggested he come to the safe house with me. Can you work this out for us? I love your brother with all my heart. I think we need to talk this out to see if Carlos and I can find a way to piece our lives back together so we can both feel like we are whole. My life is just like going through the motions without him in it."

"Carlos, you both were both stubborn but if you want to try again then I will not be against either of you. I have seen how much of a hermit you have become since you have been home. If having Stephanie in your life will get you back to your normal aggravating self then I am all for it."

"Antonio. Have you told Mom I am here?"

"Yes. She is in the waiting room."

"I need to talk to her, Please."

Antonio leaves to get his mother.

Ranger pats the bed beside him.

"Sit with me, Babe."

"My pleasure, Batman."

"I prefer Carlos. Batman isn't real and my feelings are very real. I love you and have never stopped."

Stephanie leans over and kisses him. "Me either, Carlos."

Maria Manoso comes into the room during their kiss.

"Stephanie? I didn't know you were here."

"Momma, I am sorry I have kept to myself but my last mission cost my team 5 men. I blame myself and when I came home I wanted Stephanie back in my life. She is here in Miami on loan and undercover so no one is to know she is here. Momma, will you object if Stephanie and I can get our differences ironed out and we make it permanent?"

"Son, I told you a long time ago... that woman was the best thing that ever happened to you."

"I wanted your blessing before I take that step. Stephanie is being hidden at a safe house and I want to go with her but that means you won't be able to visit me until we get this worked out."

"Son, now this is out of the way question but why are you in this hospital room?"

"Mom, I have been a bad boy. I haven't been eating and my sugar dropped to low and it almost cost me my life!"

Maria kissed his forehead. "Son, don't you know people can actually die from broken hearts?"

"I would have to plead guilty to that one."

"Stephanie, are yous sure you still want this fool?"

"Yes, Ma'am, he is the only man I have ever found true love with."

"Then I would say you both deserve each other. When it is safe bring her to the house and let the rest of the family see who has got you in such a tizzy."

"I promise, Mom. Antonio, lock him up if he tries to escape from this girl."

"Mom, I will do just that. Stephanie I need to apologize to you."

"For what, Antonio?"

"When I first met you I thought you were after his money or after him for prestige but now I see for some unknown reason you do truly and honestly love this wild child of our family."

"Well, I had a lot to do with your opinions also. I didn't exactly show you my true feelings either. I spent most of my time running from them. So that would leave you to believe I had bad intentions for Carlos."

"Welcome to the family, Stephanie. I will take care of how RangeMan Miami handles you being around us. They will know I approve of this connection and they will respect you or they can leave."

"Like I told Carlos about Trenton. First ask them their objections and then we can decide if it is something that we can compromise on if they don't want to work with us then let them leave. Then there will not be any conflict down the road."

"Carlos, I think she has a business head on those shoulders." Antonio said.

"Thank you, Antonio. You should see how much she has improved and grown Trenton."

The doctor came into the room and said "Mr. Manoso your sugar level has come up to a decent level and we will release you to your medics care. Remember test 4 times a day and keep a log for your doctor to check over. I have signed your release forms."

"Thank you, Doctor."

"I hope you two take care of each other so you do not have a second episode."

Ranger looked at Stephanie then turned to the doctor.

"With her in my life I don't foresee a recurrence."

"Then I would say you are one lucky man."

"I agree with you. Now let's go home, Babe."

Ranger is taken to the safe house for the rest of the night.

The next morning around 9:30 am Ranger rolled over and there was no Stephanie in his bed. He rolled over and thought "That was some dream. I can't believe it wasn't real."

Stephanie came into the room with a breakfast tray for him.

"I thought I only dreamt you were here. But when I woke up you were gone."

"Just payback for all those times you have done that to me."

"I didn't mean to hurt you, Babe."

Stephanie kissed him. "I know you didn't mean to hurt me. I wanted you so badly it still hurt when you left."

They ate breakfast together.

Ranger and her got dressed. They went to the indoor track and they walked and talked about their differences. Each had done and said things to deliberately hurt the other one. They went over the hurts and found out they could forgive each other.

"Carlos, we need to call Horatio and let him know since I am here with you."

"Horatio, won't even know who I am."

"He knows "of" you and he also knows we had a past. But I am here as a favor to him and while I am here I was supposed to check out their CSI lab and consider if we could use one in Trenton."

"Do you really think we could use one? Doesn't the police have their own lab?"

"According to Carl they send most of their evidence out to be processed because they only have their own lab for certain items. If we set up a separate lab then both RangeMan and the police could benefit. It takes them 6 to 8 months to get the results back. The culprits could be long gone. If RangeMan sets up the lab and gets it certified then the turn around will be quicker. More chance of catching the culprits and getting them back behind bars. Plus it will help clean up the streets."

"Call Horatio and have him come here and we will talk to him. I see your reasoning and I would like to know more before I agree to that since I know it will be expensive to set up."

Two hours later Horatio comes to the safe house.

Stephanie lets Horatio in the gate and waits at the front door for him.

"You said Ranger was in the hospital? Is he OK?"

"Yes. He had a low sugar attack and scared him badly. He hadn't been eating and the bottom just fell out. I check his sugar this morning and it was within normal ranges so I think it was just because of lack of food. Hoping so anyways."

"What did you want to see me about?"

"Actually, Ranger and I both wanted to talk to you. You once told me you wanted to train me in some of your CSI procedures. Are you still willing?"

"Sure I am."

"Let's go into Ranger's office and he wants to hear more about it before he decides if it is something RangeMan might be able to help with."

Stephanie leads Horatio into Ranger's office.

"Nice to meet you again, Horatio. You may call me Ranger or Carlos either one you feel comfortable with."

"I think I will go with Carlos and keep the Ranger thing a hidden benefit."

Ranger chuckled. "That is something I had never thought about but I like it."

"Stephanie tells me you are now interested in setting up a CSI lab in Trenton."

"Do you have to send everything out or can you do most of it in house?"

"We have to send all DNA samples out to specific labs for it. That takes about 6 to 8 months. But most other things can be done in house."

"How hard is it to find fingerprints on the web?"

"With your clearances it will be easy for you to get clearance for AFIS."

"That would help us and Trenton PD?"

"Trenton, can already use AFIS but it would help if you start carding your own fingerprints you wouldn't have to rely on the PD or some outside lab."

"Carlos, why don't you come into the lab tomorrow and watch what we do and see if you think it would be something that would help your companies?"

"I would like it. It is something Stephanie brought up before and I turned her down but I want to rethink my position."

"Carlos, close your ears! I need to talk to Horatio one on one. Horatio I know you had different hopes for this trip to Miami but last night I almost lost Carlos. I confessed to him he is the only man I would ever love. I would hope that you and I could still be friends. I have given it some thought of who I knew and I honestly believe would be a good match for you. I have a candidate I think would make an excellent partner for you. She is already a cop so she already knows what a cop needs in a partner. She is a widow and her husband was murdered while on duty."

"I didn't plan on you playing matchmaker for me."

"Babe, are you talking about Robin Russell?"

"Yes, Carlos."

"Horatio, I agree with Stephanie, Robin is perfect for you."

"Not to mention she already has a crush on you."

"I didn't mean to step on your toes, Carlos."

"You didn't. Stephanie and I split up 3 years again. I thought I could learn to live without her. Trouble is my latest mission cost me 5 men and I feel like since I was the leader I shouldn't have lost one much less all 5. Normally I would come home and Stephanie would always center me but this time she wasn't here. I let myself wallow in my own self pity."

"I know that feeling. But with that many men you can not control all the variables or the actions of all participants."

"Horatio, since I want to spend time in your lab why don't I get Robin down here to be trained right along with us. Then she could not only help the Trenton lab but also give you and her time to see if there is chemistry between you?"

"Who is in charge of the lab in Trenton?"

"I know the Chief of Police. He is my godfather."

"Great!"

"Let me call him."

"Tell him I thought of it would be a good idea and he might go for it better."

Stephanie calls Joe Juniack.

"Uncle Joe, this is Stephanie. I am in Miami and I was due to come home but I am staying to see about setting up a CSI lab for RangeMan. We want to see if it is feasible. I thought since I am going to be trained down here maybe you could send Robin Russell to be trained along with me. She could then help your lab and ours as well."

"Let me talk to him."

"Uncle Joe, Carlos wants to talk to you."

"Sir, If you send Robin down here I will gladly pay her salary while she is down here. That way neither your or Miami will be out of anything."

"What is in it for you, Ranger?"

"Robin can help Stephanie set up our lab and if she wants to work part-time for us I will know where she got her training. Not to mention I am sure Horatio will come help us set up our lab and He can check yours to see if he finds any trouble spots before Rick in Internal Affairs wants to nitpick like he did last year."

"That is a good point if Horatio will agree to it."

"Here you ask him."

"Horatio Caine here."

"Joe Juniack, Chief of Trenton Police Department."

"Carlos, said something about my coming to Trenton to check out your lab."

"Yes, last year one of our Internal Affairs nitwits decided our lab was producing false reports because a case didn't go his way. We had to re-certify everyone involved before any of our results could be used in court."

"Then I will gladly check your lab out. If you can send this Robin Russell down to me I will gladly give her a month of training. Then when Carlos gets his lab set up the manufacturers will come in with their techs and train anyone who wants the training. Besides if RangeMan sets up a lab then you won't have to send so much out because when you send it out you are put on a waiting list. This lab would help your lab get things faster with a higher percentage of capture rate with fresh information rather than the months of delay you would get."

"I like this idea, Horatio."

"Good send Robin Russell and we will get started."

"Horatio, tell Joe that I will have Tank fly her down in our jet so that won't cost the police anything."

"Carlos said Tank will call you and RangeMan will fly Robin down here. There is room at the safe house where Carlos and Stephanie are. "The Police won't have to pay for her board either."

"That is a win win situation for the Trenton PD. But shouldn't we ask Robin if she is even interested?"

"Check with her and get back to Carlos."

"I will.

Joe Juniack punched in Robin's extension.

"Robin, could you come to my office, please? You are not in trouble I have an offer that has been offered to you alone and I need to explain it to you."

"I will be right there."

Robin knocks on the Chief's Office door.

"Come in. Sit down Robin."

"What can I do for you Chief?"

"Robin, I just got off the phone with Carlos Manoso and Horatio Caine. RangeMan is thinking of starting their own lab. Stephanie is going to get some training in Miami CSI lab. She would like you to join her in this training. Horatio Caine will eventually be visiting our lab to check to make sure we are up to snuff. Is this something you are even interested in?"

"Yes, sir, it is. I loved Chemistry in both high school and college."

"Then I will find out from Tank when he will be flying you to Miami. You will be staying with Stephanie and Carlos at a safe house owned by RangeMan."

"Then are Carlos and Stephanie back together?"

"They did not say and I did not ask. But from the sound of their voices I would say yes they are. Horatio Caine will be the training co-coordinator for both Stephanie's and your training."

"Then by all means count me in."

"Let me call Tank."

Joe dialed Tank's phone.

"Tank, this is Joe Juniack. I spoke to both Carlos and Horatio and they suggested you could fly Robin Russell to Miami. Carlos is thinking of setting up a lab in Trenton and both Stephanie and Robin are to be trained by Horatio Caine. I was curious how soon you will be free to fly Robin to Miami?"

"Carlos, did call me. Tell Robin the jet will be ready by 5 pm this evening?"

"Can you be ready by 5 pm?"

"If you will authorize my leaving early today."

"She will be ready."

"Tell her I will be the one driving her to the airport."

"Tank will be the one picking you up. You are free to leave I will take care of your post and your sign out."

"Thanks, Chief. Thank Tank for me."

"Robin says thank you. What is going on do you know Chief?"

"I would assume that Carlos and Stephanie are back together and for some unknown reason Carlos is agreeing with setting up a lab at RangeMan."

"He turned Stephanie down flat when she suggested it before he left."

"I don't even know what happened to bring them back together."

"I don't like being in the dark but I guess Ranger has his reasons."

"If you find out let me know. All I know is both of them are happy right now."

"That is a good sign. Maybe Ranger came to his senses."

"We can hope so. Bye, Tank."

"Bye, Chief."

Tank hung up the phone and flopped in his desk chair.

Tank picked up the phone and called Ranger's cellphone.

"Brother, what the hell is going on?"

"About what?"
"You sending for Robin Russell."

"Blame that on Stephanie. She is playing matchmaker for Horatio Caine?"

"What about you setting up a lab here in Trenton?"

"I think it would help both the PD and us. If we collect fingerprints and run them thorough AFIS we could catch more skips instead waiting on the PD to do it for us."

"Then you and Baby Girl are back together?"

"Yes. I almost killed myself last night by accident."

"That is not like you. What happened?"

" I have been struggling after the mission where I lost 5 men. I am taking total blame. But I didn't have Babe to center me and I withdrew into myself. But in the meantime I have not been eating anything. My sugar dropped so low that it almost killed me. Babe came to my side. Since I was unconscious I had no choice to listen to what she was saying to me. She still loves me so I decided to give up the fight. I asked her to forgive me. She did and we are at the safe house together."

"I am proud of you two."

"Well Robin will be there later tonight. I hope you all have fun."

"Tank, if I ever walk away from Babe again I hope somebody shoots me."

"Don't tempt me, Boss!"

"I would deserve it. But right now Babe and I are fine. Babe will be here another month so please cover her shifts for us."

"I will let Lester know so he can schedule someone to fill the places."

"Then tell, Lester, I beat him to telling my mother. She was at the hospital and she has given Babe and I her blessing."

"Momma didn't box your ears?"

"No! She welcomed Babe into our family."

"Will wonders never cease?"

"She is happy for us."

"So am I. Now maybe we can get back to ACTUALLY doing business!"
"It does go easier when Babe and I work together."

"Let me know if there are any changes. I need to go pick up Robin."

"Antonio will have a vehicle waiting at the airport. The driver will know which safe house we are at."

"Enjoy your stay."

"With Babe in my arms I will enjoy every minute of it. I will be coming home with her when her training is done. No way will I let her get away from me again."

"Boss Man, I am glad you came to your senses."

"So am I, Tank. I feel human and whole with her by my side."

"Should I tell the guys?"

"No. I want to make sure I am healthy because I will bet a few will want to take me to the mats over letting her get away in the first place."

"I may be at the top of that list."

"That would not surprise me at all."

"Still proud of you and happy for Baby Girl."

"Thanks Tank. Good night."

Stephanie and Horatio see the smile on Carlos' face.

"So you have to prepare for mat time?"

"Yes. The men just don't know it yet. They will have to wait until we get home."

"Home sounds like a good word to me."

"Tank said Robin will be here later this evening. You are welcome to spend the night, Horatio."

"Thanks but I wouldn't want to scare her off since Stephanie thinks she will be a good match for me."

"I will meet her on my stomping grounds so maybe she won't be too skiddish."

"One thing about Robin is she is easy going but you will have to watch out because is an expert at one-liners. You may have met your match."

Horatio laughed. "Sounds like a challenge to me. One I will welcome."

Horatio leaves for the night.

Carlos and Stephanie goes out to the patio and set and enjoy the evening breezes.

They are sitting on a glider and Carlos can't get enough of touching her.

"Carlos, I know last night we did not make love. Why?"

"Because Babe, I was too emotional and I wanted to make sure this is truly what you wanted from me. I love you with all my heart and soul. You in my life is needed as much as the air I breathe."

"Carlos, I ran from Ranger's control but what I forgot was when I ran from Ranger I was also running from Carlos too."

"I promise you that I will try to find a kinder way to get my point across to you. Who knows maybe "Please" will work on you too?"'

Stephanie gently punches his arm "Just explain "why" you want me to do it. Also like giving me the pros and cons for the action that would help me understand the reasoning behind the move and your motive for it."

"You have heard you can't teach an old dog new tricks?"

"One you aren't a dog. Two, we together need to find a way for me to understand your years of military training. I also need to ask questions to understand your orders. But in the civilian world there are many ways to get the same result."

"I promise to try to learn your methods and how to combine them with what I know."

"Babe, do you want to wait before we make love?"

"Carlos, having you this close stirs up my hormones. I want you. All of you! You are my true love. I won't know if this is right or not until that moment is upon on me. I want you in my bed tonight. I also am afraid when that moment happens I will pull back."

"Then, Darling, if that happens I will abide by your decision."

"Have you noticed since the hospital I can't seemingly go a few minutes without touching you. I am afraid if I am not touching you that you will disappear again."

"Babe, I feel the same way. My question is will it bother you with Robin here and us making love?"

"We can put Robin at the end of the hall and we don't have to get loud with it."

"OK, we will try to behave for now."

Carlos kissed her and they both had a petting session. I don't think they will have a problem in the bedroom.

A few hours later Robin was escorted into the house.

Robin was in shock at the spaciousness of the house.

Ranger showed her to where she would be sleeping. He also showed her where the bathroom, the towels and wash cloths were.

"Do you need something to eat before you go to bed?"

"No, I ate before I left Trenton."

"It is late so if you don't need anything Babe and I will head to bed also."

"I am fine, Ranger."

"Thanks for agreeing to this situation. I think it will help everyone involved."

"I like the idea of working with Horatio Caine."

"I take it you have a crush on him?"

"He is a TV star who wouldn't?"

"He is a good guy in my book so enjoy yourself."

"See you tomorrow."

Ranger goes into the master bedroom and his Babe is already under the covers and he strips and joins her.

OH, Yeah! His Babe is in the nude under that sheet!

They got conservative and only had 2 rounds of loving since Stephanie had to go to training tomorrow. It felt like Heaven to be loving her again.

Ranger drove them to the CSI Lab and Hal was their back up.

Horatio met them with ID badges and led them to the CSI lab.

Calleigh met them at the elevator.

"Robin, this is Calleigh Duquesne. She will be your main instructor. Calleigh this is Robin Russell. She is a Trenton Police woman."

"Nice to meet you. Did you have fun at the Ball, Stephanie?"

"Yes, I did. But I have news to tell you later."

"Calleigh, I will leave them in your hands. Hal here is their bodyguard."

"Good I have 3 students. Let's get started."

Calleigh led them into a conference room and Calleigh begins to make a list of the type of equipment they will need to do the minimum processes. Calleigh knows Robin knows how to take fingerprints but she wasn't sure about Stephanie and Hal. They both picked it up easily. They both were able to get clear prints after using each other as a subject needed to get rolled prints.

Then Calleigh had Natalia Bon Vista to show them how to read the fingerprints. Hal caught on the easiest. Stephanie was able to read them better using the over head projector method. That was put on the equipment list.

Then it was on to learning about blood splatter identification methods. Calleigh took them to Walter Simmons for that portion. They spent most of the afternoon looking at pictures and it became second nature to look at a picture and know the direction of the blood and how to identify what type of splatter it was. Robin had several pointed questions and she was fascinated.

When lunch time rolled around Horatio came into the conference room and brought them their lunch. Horatio had a caterer bring in a buffet style lunch.

They sat around the table discussing what they are learning.

Horatio asks Robin what she thinks.

"I am loving this side of police work. It helps that I am learning from you and your people."

"I am glad you are liking our methods. I was thinking I will leave you inside for 2 weeks then I want you to go out into the field and learn some collection techniques to go with what you are learning."

"I would like that. Thank you for offering me this opportunity. It means a lot to me."

"Stephanie is the first one to recommend you for the training. She also tells me you lost your husband in the line of duty?"

"Yes, sir, I did. It has been 4 years but I still haven't moved past that. Maybe if I move into the lab part I can regain my confidence again."

"I know how you feel. Marisol, was my wife, was killed by a gang warfare and I have been alone 4 years also. Someday I am sure I will find someone that will give me the "I am still alive" spark again.

"If you find it let me know how you did it. Sometimes I think it is only my job keeping me alive."

"I don't know where I would be without my job."

"We both would probably be in a mental ward somewhere."

Horatio shook his head. "Here I thought we worked in that every day."

Robin laughed. "It feels that way sometimes."

Horatio smiled.

It was back to work.

Calleigh showed them how they could identify the different bullets, fragments and the striations they will find. Hal was better at the identification process than the girls. Hal also stated he would like to be part of the CSI team if they set up a lab. This technical stuff really fascinated him.

At the end of the day they all felt they had learned a lot. Calleigh gave them 3 manuals which they could keep. It defined the processes they had learned today. They were glad to have a step by step guideline to follow.

Horatio came in at close of class and thanked them for their hard work.

"Carlos, would you mind if I brought Robin to the house later. I would like to discuss how we can find a way to get on with our lives again after our losses?"

"That is up to Robin."

"I would like that. Thank you, Horatio."

"Did they give you the code to the gate, Horatio?"

"Yes, they did."

"Have fun you two." Carlos said.

Horatio took Robin to Perricone's Market and Gift Shop for supper.

They both chose the steak and vegetables.

They filled each other in on their lives and it seemed like they had led parallel lives in two different states.

They discovered they agreed on many things.

Robin described how she lost her husband.

Horatio explain his relationship with Marisol and how Eric and him still are close.

Horatio being the honest man he is he comes clean with Robin about why she was chosen for the training.

"Horatio, you didn't need to tell me this to get me to come here."

"Robin, I am not like my TV character."

"I figured that. But I have seen enough to know you are an honorable man. That is the draw for me."

"I do take my job seriously."

"As do I. I would be interested in how Miami differs from Trenton."

"Then you will enjoy the field work we have planned for next week."

"I will look forward to it."

"Are you finished, my dear?"

"I am."

"Then how about I give you a personal tour of my City?"

"I would love that."

They spend about 2 hours touring some of the sights Horatio thinks will interest Robin.

They stop often to admire the city's beauty and to stare at the ocean.

Horatio stands behind her while she is admiring the view. Horatio is admiring his own view. He likes what he sees.

About that time Robin turns around and notices that Horatio is watching her and not the skyline.

She turns around and faces him.

"Penny for your thoughts."

Horatio smiles at her.

"I was admiring the view."

"Just like I am doing now?"

Horatio smiles and realizes she has him dead to rights.

"Nothing wrong with the view I was seeing."

"I would say my view is very handsome also."

Horatio bent down and kissed her.

Robin put her arms around his neck and leaned into that kiss.

Horatio pulled her close to his chest.

"Do you realize this is the first kiss I have enjoyed since Marisol?"

"Well, Mr. TV star, that was the first kiss that made me feel like I just might still be alive."

Horatio pulled her still closer.

"Then Ms. Robin, I would say we both are long overdue."

"Guess Carlos and Stephanie are rubbing off on us. Are you complaining?"

"Never!"

"Me either."

Together they walked along the beach hand in hand.

They ran into one of the beach patrol.

"Horatio, I am not used to seeing you walking on the beach."

"I am showing Ms. Russell our city's beauty."

"Looks like you found a gem of your own."

"I did but I had to have it imported."

"Have a good evening folks."

The officer is amused to think of Horatio being out with a woman. This was a strange occurrence for Horatio. But the officer thinks Horatio picked well.

Horatio and Robin continue holding hands and spend time testing their chemistry.

It was almost 9 PM when Horatio suggested they needed to get back to the safe house.

While driving to the home Horatio was holding Robin's hand.

Horatio coded the gate and drives up to the garage.

Horatio opens Robin's door and pulls her into a deep kiss.

"I have enjoyed my evening, Robin. Thank you."

"Thank you, Horatio. I have enjoyed this evening too."

"I think Stephanie needs to become a matchmaker because she got it perfect this time."

"I think she got it right for sure."

Horatio kissed her again and led her to the front door.

Stephanie was waiting at the door.

"Did you enjoy your evening, Robin?"

"I sure did. Thank you. Good night, Horatio. Thanks for showing me your city."

"I will see you tomorrow?"

"Count on it."

Horatio smiled at her and turned to leave.

"Stephanie, I think you missed your calling. Matchmaking suits you."

"Glad I could help you H."

Robin blushed but headed to her room.

Robin spent the rest of the evening reliving her evening with Horatio. She was a happy woman tonight.

The next week was busy learning new things, techniques and getting the procedures down pat. Every area Calleigh tested them on they all past with flying colors.

Every evening Horatio was seen with Robin. It didn't take long for everyone to know Robin had captured Horatio's heart. They loved the smile they saw on his face every single day. This was not the Horatio they were used to seeing.

At the end of the month of training Carlos was sure that a lab could be of use in Trenton.

Now it was Horatio's turn to leave town.

He had his superiors approval for a two week leave to go to Trenton to help check out their lab.

When Trenton PD officers found out they had a TV Star in their mists they were pleased. They felt special.

That was until they figured out Horatio was there only because one of their own.

They tried to pump Robin but she was very closed mouth.

When Horatio had to go back to Miami both Horatio and Robin had a plan.

Robin and Horatio already had it set up to meet half way and they would continue coordinate their days off. They would meet in Richmond, Virginia where Horatio's parents lived. This was their way to handle their long distance relationship.

Carlos and Stephanie felt better being back in Trenton.

It honestly felt like home to them both.

When Stephanie gets back of course Connie and Lula demanded all the details.

But this time Stephanie was not forth coming with enough details to suit Lula.

Lula kept hounding Stephanie for more information.

One night Stephanie was complaining to Carlos about how disgusting it was for Lula to always want intimate details.

"Why should I have to tell her all the intimate details when it is none of her business? It is our lives not hers!"

"Want me to take care of it for you, Babe?"

"No. Why can't she just be happy for me?"

"Jealousy."

"Of what?"

"Babe, look at yourself. You are gorgeous. I don't care if Lula lost all that weight she still would not begin to be as beautiful as you are. She doesn't have your skills, or your personality."

"They why get mad at me when she isn't even making an effort to change herself."

"Then, Babe, if she doesn't care about herself why should you?"

"You are right."

"Your job is to take care of me and I will take care of you. We don't need her help."

Stephanie gets a phone call.

"Stephanie it is Robin."

"Hi, Robin."

" I am in Richmond, Virginia."

"Meeting Horatio?"

"Yes and No. Yes, I am meeting Horatio BUT I am also here to meet his mother and father. Horatio asked me to marry him and I said yes."

"YOU WHAT! I am so happy for you."

"Horatio, wants to talk to you."

"Stephanie?"

"H?"

"Thank you for bringing Robin with you. She is perfect for me. Not to mention she is transferring to Miami and to my precinct. If we get my parents blessing we will get married when we can arrange it."

"Horatio! I am so happy for you. Carlos, Horatio and Robin are getting married."

"When you know let us know. We would like to be there."

"I will let you know once we get a date."

"I am so happy for you, Robin."

"I am glad you thought enough of me to bring this man into my life."

"Does Calleigh know?"

"Yes. Seems as if she figured out and asked Horatio how long he intended on waiting to ask me."

Stephanie chuckled. "That is one smart girl."

"Yeah. I will call you."

"Bye, Robin."

Stephanie hung up.

Carlos pulled Stephanie down to his lap.

"Babe, if Horatio can man up and get his girl then maybe I should do it also.

Stephanie Michelle Plum will you do the honor of marrying me?"

"You think we are ready for this?"

"I am. I want no other woman in my life but you."

"Then yes. I would be honored to marry you."

Carlos stands them both up and he grabs her hand and walks them into his office.

He pulls out a ring box out of the safe.

He opens the box. Inside the box is a heart cut diamond solitaire surrounded by sapphires. The band and the wedding band is full of diamonds.

Stephanie is standing there with her mouth open.

"Babe, you haven't said anything. Is the answer yes?"

"Yes, but I am speechless."

"Babe, remember the first time we met at the diner?"

"Yes."

"When I left that diner I went straight to a jewelers because I knew I wanted to marry you."

"Then we both fought these feelings."

"But maybe we were not ready back then. Now I know how it feels to try to live without you."

"I don't want to live without you either."

"I just had an idea." Carlos calls Horatio's phone.

"Hello."

"Horatio, Robin told Stephanie of your plans. My question is how many days off do you two have?

"We are both off for a week."

"How about I fly there to pick you two up and we all fly to Las Vegas? I asked Stephanie to marry me and she said yes. We could have a double wedding!"

"Let me ask Robin. Robin, dear?"

"Yes, Sweetheart."

"Carlos is on the phone. Since we are both off for a week he wants to fly us to Las Vegas for a double wedding. He asked Stephanie and she said yes."

"Yes, Carlos!"

"OK. Call me later and we will fly to meet you. Then we will go to Las Vegas and we will find us a wedding chapel tomorrow."

"I will let you know what my parents say. I really want their blessing."

"Let me know, Horatio. We will get our bags packed."

They hang up.

Carlos calls Jim, the pilot, and told him to get the jet ready.

An hour later Carlos gets the call.

Carlos and Stephanie rush to the jet and they are off.

The next day the women go dress shopping and the men go to rent Tuxes.

The couples had chosen a mid afternoon ceremony.

The wedding chapel provided the witnesses and in no time the ceremonies were complete.

Two men had their wives. The two women had new names. Neither couple was unhappy about the events.

Carlos said it was their lucky day and maybe they should to go to the casino.

Horatio agreed with him.

They chose The Mirage.

Carlos books two suites.

The women change their clothes.

They hit the $1 slots and after about $25 dollars into the slots. Robin's machine whistles goes off. Robin hit a jackpot worth $10,000.

Robin was flabbergasted!

She had to have her picture taken and filled out their forms.

The two couples decides they will order food in their rooms, as it is close to midnight.

Carlos and Horatio decide to head for home tomorrow afternoon.

The flight home was quiet as Carlos invited Horatio and Robin to use the bedroom so they can claim mile high club status.

Carlos is busy smooching it up with Stephanie.

They reach Trenton. Robin wants to turn in her resignation in person.

They go into Joe Juniak's office.

"Chief, I came to turn in my two week's notice."

"But why Robin? It thought you were happy here."

"I was until I married Horatio yesterday afternoon. Now I want to move to Miami to be with my husband."

"That is a very good reason. Just write out the request and date it for April 1st. That way it will be back dated and I will OK it so you will now be free to move whenever you are ready."

"Thank you, Chief."

"Thank you, Horatio, for helping upgrade our lab."

"If you ever get to Miami look me up."

"I will do that. Congratulations you two."

Robin looks over at Horatio.

"I haven't been this happy since I lost Jeff. I finally feel like life has meaning again."

"I feel the same way." Horatio said.

"Then much happiness to you both."

As Robin was leaving she ran into Carl and Big Dog.

"Where you been hiding Robin?"

"Nowhere. I turned in my resignation and I was just saying good by to the Chief."

"You are leaving? Why didn't the gossip mill catch this major development?"

"Well, I will give you a tidbit to pass on."

Robin held up her left hand.

"I married Horatio Caine yesterday. Now we are headed to Miami. I will be working in his crime lab."

"Married? I didn't even know you knew him."

"Sure I did. Remember I spent a month learning the lab techniques?"

"I forgot. I didn't realize there was even a romance attached to that stay."

"Shows how little the gossip mills know. Stephanie and Carlos got married when we did yesterday."

"Do what!?"

"Yes we had a double wedding and we stayed at The Mirage Casino. I even won $10,000 at one of the slot machines."

"Big Dog, I think she is making us look like back hills country hicks."

"We are happy for you, Robin."

"I am very happy. I still get to do police work and learn the CSI side of it as well."

"We are proud of you, girl."

"Thanks, boys. Horatio and I are headed back to RangeMan. Carlos is having us flown back to Virginia to pick up our car. We still have a little less than a week left of our honeymoon."

Robin and Horatio turned to leave when Joe Morelli come along.

"Where you been hiding, Russell?"

"I haven't been hiding. I have been working between here and Miami."

"Sure you have."

"Sir, I suggest you do not call my wife a liar."

"Robin ain't married to anyone."

"My ring finger says I am. I suggest you get lost Morelli. Thank god I don't have to listen to your mouth any more."

"Then what are you doing here?"

"Turning in my resignation. It has been accepted. Good bye Good riddance."

"MORELLI!"

"Yes, sir. Give me your badge and your gun...NOW!"

"Why, sir?"

"I heard you insult Ms. Russell. Your mouth is unbecoming a police officer. Some one get Rick up here I want this man out of our building and off our force...TODAY!"

Rick shows up he hears all sides and agrees with the Chief. He will back the Chief's dismissal of Morelli.

"Morelli, you have been told many times to watch your mouth. Robin Russell has a spotless record which is more than you can say." Rick said.

"I will take this to the Union. You won't get by with this."

"Take it to the Union but when they hear what you told her it will be good bye good riddance to you not her!"

Morelli storms out of the building without even cleaning out his office.

"Thanks guys. I am heading to Miami and enjoying time with my husband."

"I am proud of you, Sweetheart. You didn't let the nasty man get the last word and still defended your honor before I had to do it myself."

They leave and head back to the airport.

They are flown back to Virginia where they will then drive to Miami.

After Robin and Horatio left the Police Building the gossip mill went into multiple level overload.

But wait...didn't she say Stephanie Plum married Ranger?

What brought all this about?

The gossip mill didn't realize they were even together!

The rumor mill then hit RangeMan.

What do they mean the Boss and Stephanie got married?

No one had seen the boss in months.

But about the time they heard the news the participants showed up at work.

Ranger walked into the lobby with Stephanie on his arm.

Once he hit the 5th floor chaos ensued.

They were happy for them but they also wanted answers on how it happened.

"Men, this may be my business but as far as what Babe and I do outside this building is our private lives and we do NOT have to ask your permission for something that is between her and I. You have been telling me for years that I love her. I chose to agree with you and make it legal so no one can steal her away from me. So settle down! Starting tomorrow I will be here every day so get used to having me around again."

"Cuz, we are happy that you finally got the nerve to face your feelings but we are just surprised is all."

"Then here is another surprise for you. We just got back from Las Vegas and we were part of a double wedding. Robin Russell of Trenton PD married Horatio Caine." Stephanie said.

"The TV Star?"

"The same. We all flew to Las Vegas and had a double wedding. See I have two rings on my ring finger."

Congratulations and hugs were given all around.

Stephanie and Ranger went up to the penthouse and they called Ella before she hit Rhino Mode.

Ella went running upstairs when she found out Carlos was home.

She was surprised about the wedding.

"Ella, we didn't tell anyone we just left town and did it. No one can make this marriage work but the two of us. Then we didn't need to hear from anyone trying to give us their opinions." Stephanie said.

"I will accept that. Will you be staying here, Ranger?"

"Yes, Tia. If Stephanie is here that is where my home is also. She completes me and I don't want to be too far away from her."

"I am happy for both of you."

Both couples lives begin to blend into a normal routine.

Trenton is working on getting certification of the CSI lab they have established and almost a year after its forming they have finally gotten their certification. They work closely with the RangeMan's lab. The faster return of information helps lock up the guilty parties much faster.

The gangs have learned about the lab and have tried to diversify their areas just to try to stay ahead of RangeMan and the Police Lab.

Trenton's crime rate has gone down thanks to Stephanie's efforts with the Lab. RangeMan actually have found 4 men who are interested enough to study to learn the ins and outs of DNA processing. It will take them at least 2 years to get that part accredited but then it will not take them 8 months to get the answers back!

Who would have thought Horatio Caine coming to RangeMan to speak to Stephanie would have altered a town's whole outlook?
