Cress's face contorted in exaggerated disgust as soon as she swallowed the contents of her mug. She covered her mouth with her hand to hide the gag that followed. Thorne lifted an eyebrow in amusement as he watched her antics. They were sitting in the cafeteria of the Rampion, taking a break from camping out in the cockpit of the ship. Cress had looked rather listless; Thorne figured he could remedy this with the use of a certain drink.

"Stars, what did you give me?" Cress grimaced as she looked over the thick, dark liquid in the mug Thorne had passed her. He sighed and shook his head in mock disappointment.

"That, my dear, sweet, clueless, Cress, is coffee," Thorne told her, leaning over the table. "The sole sustenance of the entire Earthen population on early mornings."

"Oh, it's absolutely vile," She pushed the mug away from her, as if the drink were no longer in front of her the memory of the taste would disappear.

"You're being ridiculous," Thorne rolled his eyes, reaching for the mug across the table. "I make the best cup of coffee on this side of space. If simply mixing ground coffee with hot water counted but that was beside the point.

"Although, I suppose it is a rather sophisticated flavor not suited for everyone," He explained as he picked up the warm mug, bringing it to his lips. The slightly bitter and smoky, comforting smell of the coffee filled his nostrils as he took a gulp. And promptly turned to his side to spit it back out. Coffee droplets splattered against his pants, shoes, and the floor. Thorne stared warily at the mug he held in his hand. The smell had been deceiving. Cress had been telling the truth. This coffee was revolting.

"Aces, what is this garbage," Thorne muttered under his breath. A laugh brought his attention back to the girl sitting across from him at the table.

"I guess I'm not the only one not suited for such a sophisticated flavor," Cress teased. She tilted her head as she watched him, a small smile playing on her lips.

"It's just a bad cup of coffee," He explained as he sent her a half-hearted glare.

"If this is how the best cup of coffee this side of space tastes, well, I'm personally terrified to try another one," she continued, ignoring him. Thorne's eyes narrowed as she continued with her jabs.

"I'm never stealing military coffee again," Thorne grumbled, crossing his arms while Cress continued to quietly laugh.
