Why do You Care?
A/N: This is my one-shot about Dean and Ben. Right after he moved in, Ben and Dean get time to react.

Lisa kissed the crown of Ben's head. "Okay, buddy. It's just gonna be you and Dean today. Be easy on him, and do whatever he asks you to do. Within reason." She added as Ben got a mischevious grin on his face. Dean was asleep in the guest bedroom. He'd been up all night with nightmares, and Lisa had spent many hours with him.
It was summer in the Braeden-Winchester home, and Lisa had spent her free time with Ben during the day. Dean was in the middle of self-isolation after the death of his baby brother.
Ben played the xbox, and lost his train of thought as he and his friends played Halo. He forgot all about Dean, and his "issues". Until all of a sudden, quiet padding of feet came from down the hall.
"Lisa?" he asked, in a sleep-encased voice. Ben looked up, quickly said goodbye to his friends, and cleaned up his stuff. "Dean. Mom's at work for the day." "Ben…what are you doing here?" Dean asked, his green eyes widening in surprise.
"Dean…it's July. It's summer vacation." He said simply. Dean whispered an "Oh.." and sat down on the couch. "What are you doing?" he asked quietly. "I was playing Halo. You wanna play?" he asked, holding out a controller. Dean grabbed it tentaviley. And began to play.
After a few rounds, he smiled honestly and looked to Ben. "Thanks, Ben. I needed this. Really." Ben grinned back. "No problem."
"Ben…I know I've been a little…strange. But..its not your fault. And you don't have to walk on egg shells around me." "Dean…can I tell you something?" "Sure." "I never had a dad before. It's just been me and Mom..but you being here. Even just being physically here…has made me so happy. I'm okay with you being really tired, and sleeping a lot. Because a dad who's kinda there is better than no dad at all."
