Not So Simple As It Sounds

Dean had told him to pick up some chocolate before he came back. That was the only explanation for an Angel of the Lord to be standing in a convenience store staring at the rows upon rows of packaging before him now.

Chocolate. It had sounded so simple back at the motel but here faced with this Castiel had no idea where to start.

Chocolate. Chocolate with nougat. Chocolate with peanut butter. Chocolate with wafers inside or caramel or both. Hersheys, Mars, Reeces. . . Dean had said chocolate like that was all there was, like he'd go to the store and find something labelled chocolate and be done with it.

There were two possible courses of action. He could ask Dean. He'd have to walk back to the motel because he was out of minutes on his cell phone. The alternative was to buy one of everything. He took the wallet out of his pocket and regarded the contents warily. There was cash and there was also a card. Sam had tried to explain the workings of the card and it had left Castiel feeling uncomfortable, so cash it would have to be.

He counted the notes quickly and returned his gaze to the shelf, quickly calculating the different options and working out what he could take.

The guy at the check-out gave him a puzzled look, before saying, "Sure you got enough chocolate there, dude?"

"I don't know," Castiel answered, "It was not made clear which type of chocolate I should be purchasing therefore I have purchased some of all the varieties."

"Uh-huh, sure, dude. Whatever you say."

As Castiel picked up his bag to leave the store, he couldn't really see what the problem was, but all the way back he pondered over how he should have dealt with the situation.

He was feeling a little defensive by the time he made it back to the motel. He let himself in through the door, grateful that there was no Sam around as he dropped the bag of chocolate on the table beside Dean. "I got you chocolate."

Dean looked at the bag in surprise, "Seriously! Er, Cas . . . Thanks. Yeah, thanks. Erm . . ." He looked flabbergasted. He took a few breaths, before he spoke again. "Cas, you know when I asked you to pick up some chocolate? Well, I didn't mean all the chocolate in the store. One bar would have done."

"You were unspecific in your instructions and, while I could extrapolate that one bar would suffice, there were many different varieties from which a choice needed to be made. It was unclear which was required, therefore, the logical conclusion was to buy multiple bars of chocolate but each of a different type."

"Wow! Really? Okay, well. . . I guess we could try a few and then we'll have it figured out for future reference." Dean smirked and reached into the bag. "So what do we have in here? Ahhh, the classic Reese's Pieces . . . Milky Way . . . interesting . . . Chunky . . . Mr Goodbar and Mountain bar . . . okay and. . . "

Dean fell silent, looking at the packet in his hand, finally looking back at Castiel as he said, "Hershey's Kisses?"

Castiel shrugged.
