Is this all that's left for her? People grabbing, snatching, grabbing, ripping, stabbing, clawing at her. When all's said and done, is this all that's left for her? Fighting, and when the fighting's done—healing, never herself, for she says their wounds are worse and hers will heal in time. And what of the time when there's no fighting and no one to heal. What is she to do then? She waits, stands watch, waiting for more to fight. "No rest for the weary," some say. No, no rest for her. Never. Even on the rare occasion she permits herself sleep, allows herself to lay by my side, she takes no rest. Her body remains tense beside me even in the deepest, most dreamless sleep. The very sound of a twig breaking in the wind causes her to spring up, tense, bowed over, growling, ready to tear any intruder to pieces to defend her people—my people—at any cost, as long as she's the one to pay. Is this violent, tense, restless life all that's left for such a sweet, kind, gentle, woman? If that is all that's left for her, I am not amazed that she counts her life to be so little.
Still, there she stands, on the edge of the fire's light, dead-eyed, deep in her mind, watching everything that goes on within a mile of camp. I tell her, sometimes, that there is only so much strength she can draw from the fire, that it's no substitute for proper sleep. Lately, she's proved me wrong. We've been out in the Wild for over a month now, and all she's done that even resembles rest in stand near the fire, monitoring with those dead eyes, or lay with me stiffly for about an hour until she can lay still no longer.
Those Strangers who know her from their world say she's always been like this, but I have a hard time believing she's always been this way, for she never is as tense in the city. I think the Wild frightens her, as it frightens my Rangers and me, thus it is time to return to the city. There is nothing left for anyone here, anymore.

[AN] This is what I call a "word doodle" that spawned in my Pre Cal class. It is based on LOTR, and yes, that is Aragorn's voice. It's just a drabble based on something that was going on in my head. The woman he's talking about has psychic powers.. really, don't ask, you wont like the answer as to who she is.
