After Basil broke his own worthy violin and yelled at Olivia, he picked her up just because he was mad at her, but she started to get very stressed out, so she tooted as an act of self-defense. She hadn't meant any harm.
"PU! That stinks!" Basil shrieked as he set her on the floor, not knowing why Olivia tooted. He held his nose.
"Well, I couldn't help it," Olivia said nervously.
"I know you're stressed," Basil said, trying to act formal, "But this violin is very expensive."
Olivia quivered with confusion. "Are you saying I did it?"
"I understand how you feel, Olivia, but you didn't break it. I guess I should've moved your clothes. How careless of me. Oh, and by the way, it's not ladylike to fart," Basil said firmly.
"Everyone farts," Olivia corrected.
"Mr. Basil, don't make me destroy your chemistry set or better yet, break the remains of your broken violin!" Mrs. Judson threatened.
"What?" Basil gasped.
"You stressed her out and made her fart by picking her up," Dawson said. "So, as long as she's with gentlemen like us, she'll be just fine."
Against his better judgement, Basil finally agreed as long as Olivia was safe with two trusted adults and she was happy.
Author's note: Well, that was different. Basil just needs to control his anger sometimes and that's why Olivia had to do what she did in self-defense.
*If Fidget was ever in Olivia's position in this argument, Fidget would've been stressed out enough to fart, as well.
*When Olivia shushed Basil in the movie, it may not only be because Sherlock Holmes' and Dr. Watson's shadows were approaching, but because he was being bitter towards her and she couldn't stand his bitterness, so he needed to be stirred up a bit. She had every right to show her anger. Basil just needs to cut his attitude and self-indulgence out!
*Hopefully, I didn't overdo the "gas" thing.
