Scylla's Lament

As gray as the stormclouds, you poured on my soul…

You captured my heart:  I am no longer whole.

One look and you owned me, but one black-eyed glance,

My world has been shattered…I fell on love's lance.

You shielded my body from danger that day

Yet you could not save me, nor feelings allay.

I don't want to be saved…not from love…not from you

There is but one savior for hearts that beat true.

You spoke to my spirit the day of the rains

But galloped away and left me only pain.

I watched for you…dreamed for you…begged of my heart

Yet for all my pleading…you still played a part.

I lay not-quite-sleeping, and not-quite-awake,

Just willing a sign from the heavens will break.

And now, a year later, you haunt me this eve

For you called to your band and left this one to grieve.
