Joy and Anguish
A tiny child snuggles in her mother's arms. She is a bundle of both joy and anguish. Naturally this joy is the very essence of motherly love. It is always expected that a mother is to love her child regardless of her circumstances. This mother does not place her anguish upon her child's shoulders. The anguish she feels was inflicted by the father, the man that left her in the dark. Sometimes, though, she wonders and hopes even that maybe he'll return.
"Cosette," the mother murmurs softly, "My poor dear, life is too cruel for an angel such as you."
