Kensi leans back against her towel and stares up at the wide blue sky. She doesn't usually enjoy the beach, but today she doesn't mind. The sand is warming her back through her striped beach blanket, the ocean's waves are nearly lulling her to sleep, and even she can't deny the fact that she likes seeing Deeks shirtless.
Although, he is quick to ruin her paradise. "Wanna' go surfing?" He asks, and she can hear his voice as he leans over her, wet hair dripping salt water onto her stomach.
"No." She swats her hand into the hair, and smiles a little when she connects with his chin. He pulls back hissing, but she's know him long enough to know that he'll only play at being injured.
"I won't laugh when you fall off the board." Deeks pleads. His voice is farther away now, when he begs: "Come on, princess."
"Stop calling me that!"
"What, princess?" His voice sounds almost endearingly confused.
"I am not a princess." Its true, she's spent her whole life trying not to be a spoiled little brat like all of the rest of the girls her age. Her father helped with that, and Kensi winces at those thoughts, glad her face is hidden by her wide sunglasses.
But Deeks loves to argue almost as much as she does. "Yes you are."
"I'm not a princess." Kensi says quietly, half hoping he can't hear her. "Because this isn't a fairy tale."
Deeks does hear her, of course, and he stills above her. She opens her eyes to gauge his reaction. Maybe this is the first time she has ever said anything to suggest she doesn't love this type of life. Maybe now he'll know she sometimes hates being the seductive one, the poser, the undercover liar. Why can't she ever go to work as herself? A bad ass cop, a tomboy…
But Kensi doesn't want to have this conversation with her partner, so she sits up, and stretches. She tosses her sunglasses onto the towel and stands, staring down at Deeks. "Well, are you coming?"
Kensi tries not to think about the angry lecture Hetty will surely give them when they return from this mission, or the fact that their serial killer could be watching them right this instant. Instead, she focuses on the way Deek's blue puppy-dog-eyes light up with excitement when they both head towards the waves.
I might actually continue this story, if enough people review and tell me what they think! Sorry it's so short :/
