(A/N: I was cleaning out my documents when I found this. Figured I'd stick it up rather than just delete it. Can't remember what I was thinking when I wrote it, but it was inspired by the song 'No Fear' by the Rasmus. Sort of hints towards my thoughts of how Cloud is as much Leon's light as Leon is Cloud's, though perhaps in a more metaphorical way than literal as seems to be the case with Cloud. Anyway, enjoy.

Disclaimer: Characters aren't mine, not making any profit from this, yadda yadda. You know the drill.

No Fear.

Grey eyes remained locked on that shimmering portal of blues, purples and blacks without blinking. He had to step into it, it was the only way. It lead to darkness, he knew that. He might not ever return, it was a risk he had to take. Darkness had been the root of his fears since childhood, and now he had to face that darkness or he might forever lose the one he considered to be the embodiment of his light. Step into the darkness to save the light; the irony was obvious. Could he face his fear and plunge headlong into the darkness? Or would he remain rooted to the spot for an eternity yet? The decision was entirely his.

No fear...

He couldn't fear this absence of light, no matter what it stood for or what it held within it. It may well be his final journey but he had to look past that.

Still he stood motionless before that swirling concoction of uninviting colours, those grey eyes never once leaving their mark. Fear was dictating his actions, fear was making him consider turning away and forsaking that which had been consumed by that same darkness he was still so torn about stepping through. Fear was winning.

Destiny had set an obstacle in his path, and it was one that seemed impossible to overcome. Never had anything struck such terror into this man than the knowledge of what the darkness could do to a person, could do to him, if he stepped through, could be doing right then to the one thing that provided him with the will to keep fighting that shadow.

No fear...

The darkness was winning. He couldn't allow that. Another burden of guilt upon his weighted shoulders might just be the final mistake that broke him beyond repair; leaving his light alone in the darkness, leaving him to his fate would be the death of them both.

Hands clenched and resolve strengthened. Frown deepened and senses cleared. Lungs filled and determination set. Two steps and he was in, darkness swallowing him.
