So I was listening to Sanctuary –After the Battle-and I suddenly wanted to write a short oneshot, so…here's a small little short story thing.
.
You and I
After I began training with Lea under the tutelage of the great Master Yen Sid, I sometimes traveled back to the Destiny Islands to see some of the old gang again. Seeing the smiles on their faces after I disembarked from the Gummi Ship right along the play island's shore always made me return the smile. Sora and Riku were busy exploring some other new worlds so I always went there myself. Chip and Dale constantly tried to teach me how to pilot the Gummi Ship, but really, who bothered to listen to them when you were too distracted by those squeaky voices of theirs?
As I walked along the shoreline my sandals scrunched against the gritty sand of the beach, making tiny splashes in the cool blue water lapping against the shore. Seeing Selphie and talking to her for about a minute and a half while avoiding a Blitz Ball to the face from Wakka or Tidus was how most of these visits went. After that I'd tell them I'd be right back, and then I'd head to the Secret Place to take a look at the familiar scenery.
The dark cave was filled with drawings colored in white chalk that covered most of the rocky walls around me. As I walked deeper into the cave I ran my fingers along the rough stony surface of the cave and occasionally passing over roots sprouting from the walls.
My eyes fell upon the true masterpiece of this place—the drawing of Sora and I. His drawing of me was fairly poor compared to mine of him. He had drawn a Paoupu fruit going from him to me, and I had finished the piece by drawing one going back to him. I smiled, a tear slowly trickling down my cheek. A drawing we had both started when we were still in preschool now looked complete.
This was a secret place for just the two of us…he had told me Riku showed him the place, but in recent years Riku never wandered down here. This drawing was our little secret. I chuckled, picturing Sora's goofy grin staring back at me with those pearly white teeth. It was always just him and I. I couldn't imagine what life would have been life if I hadn't met the brunette, who in turn introduced me to his silver-haired friend.
I thought I heard footsteps…footsteps that sounded so familiar. I could recognize those large feet stepping around a mile away. I turned my back to the drawing and looked to the opening of the cave. Blue eyes stared back at me and I smiled. It was as if he knew I was here ahead of time. He smiled back at me.
"You and I will never lose each other again. I promise."
Tears of happiness and love welled inside my heart of light as I collapsed to my knees, overwhelmed by the happiness and love for this boy that nearly flooded out of me like a river. He walked to me and reached a hand out, which I eagerly grabbed. And I replied back to him—
"You never do break your promises."
