So I was making a bracelet which I do after every exam as it helps me to unwind and this idea popped into my head. I hope you like it :)
"What you doing Carter?" O'Neill asked, dropping down beside.
Carter shifted to the side slightly so that the Colonel had more of the tree trunk to lean against. "Something my nieces taught me Sir."
"Oh," O'Neill said, shifting so that he was leant next to his second in command, "It looks like a mess of threads to me Major."
Carter smiled, "It's a friendship bracelet Sir, my nieces taught me how to braid one last time I saw them."
O'Neill reached over and plucked the end of the bracelet out of her hand, taking a good look at it. "I thought friendship bracelets were normally plaited." He gave it a gently tug to get a closer look, causing the Carter's trousers to rise slightly since she had safety pinned it to her BDU's.
"The one the girls taught me is different, it's more knotting than plaiting," she lightly smacked his hand away, "I'll show you when I finish it."
O'Neill nodded then asked, "How come you brought it off world with you?"
Carter shrugged, "It's lighter than a book and since this world is uninhabited and the only reason we're here is so Daniel can look at the ruins so I knew we would be sitting around and I promised the girls I'd practice."
O'Neill smiled at the women sat next to him, watching as she knotted the threads with ever increasing speed until she let it all go and said, "There, done."
Unpinning it from her trousers she pulled the cuff back down and pulled the safety pin out of the top knot before passing it the O'Neill. He took it and held it up. There were four colours repeating down the bracelet, blue, red, yellow and black. "Looks good Carter."
"Thanks Sir," Carter said, reaching for her pack and pulling out some more threads.
O'Neill went to hand it back but she shook her head, "Keep it Sir, you're a friend aren't you." She added the last bit in a quiet voice and O'Neill smiled at her.
Pushing the cuff up his arm he held out his wrist to Carter and said, smiling, "Course we're friends, now do me a favour and tie it for me."
Carter smiled at him and took the bracelet from him and tied it off, "There you go Sir, all done."
Looking at his wrist O'Neill smiled then turned and said, "Good, now let's see if an old dog can learn new tricks."
Two hours later SG-1 came through the event horizon and down the ramp in the gate room. Carter and O'Neill had their sleeves rolled up and everyone could see the multitude of bracelets adorning their wrists. Walking over to them Hammond said, "Welcome back SG-1. Debrief in one hour," he turned away then turned back, "Major, Colonel, what is on your wrists?"
Looking at each other the two officers smiled, "Bracelets Sir," Carter answered.
O'Neill nodded, "Lighter than a book," he said, before walking out of the embarkation room and towards the ready room, Carter close behind him.
Hammond looked at Daniel and Teal'c and raised an eyebrow in question.
The archaeologist and Jaffa shrugged and Daniel said, "I have no idea Sir, but when Teal'c and I went to find them to tell them we'd finished they were sat making bracelets."
Teal'c nodded then bowed his head and walked along the path that the Major and Colonel had walked down, Daniel following close behind.
Hammond shook his head, as much as he loved his flagship team, sometimes they confused the hell out of him although he did admire their loyalty to each other. Smiling he went to prepare for what was either going to be a very boring debriefing or one that explained the new jewellery two of the team were now wearing.
