Chapter 1: Angela
Angela sighed, focusing on her nearly finished salad. The man she loved didn't even know she existed. She felt so silly. It had been years since any boy had given her butterflies, and it embarrassed her. It was like she was back in elementary school! But she couldn't help it. He was . . . he was perfect. Everything about him. Just being around him made her feel powerful. Important even. Like she wasn't just a wasted space. That she was someone. Angela felt her cheeks grow hot just thinking about him.
"Mom, are you even listening to me?" Peter asked, his tone gentle yet accusing.
"Of course Peter." What was he talking about again? Something about Nathan?
"I mean, that would just suck as a power. Only being able to fly? It'd be cool at first, but then it it would really sink in that flying just wasn't a useful power, you know?" As hard as she tried, she just couldn't pay attention to what he was saying. Her thoughts were consumed with him. Angela picked the napkin up off of her lap and set it on her plate.
"Well Peter, I hate to run off like this, but I need to drop this check off at the bank before it closes." She stood up and hugged her son.
"Thank you for lunch Peter."
Angela walked out of the cafe and down the streets. There really wasn't check that needed delivering, she just wanted to see if he was home. It had only been 3 days since she last saw him, but to her, it felt like a lifetime. She couldn't get him out of her mind. She felt like her head was going to explode!
And then there it was. Mohinder Suresh's house.
