Author's note: The idea for this drabble came to me while I watched Time has come today (Season Three's 1st episode) and I just felt the urge to write something about this little scene, the glimpse into George's mind that we're given for a moment while he re-lives the Intern Mixer. I hope you enjoy this, since I really liked that part of the episode - which is a good one, by the way.
She wasn't listening.
He was talking to her and it was completely obvious that not even one of his words was getting to her. It was hard for someone like him to build up the courage it took to go and talk to someone like her. He was shy, and she was a stranger. A blonde, skinny stranger that he thought was the prettiest woman he had seen in years.
Not that he was saying something very important.
Not really.
But he still wanted her to listen, and she seemed too distracted to do that, her gaze fixed in some undetermined point right behind him, while she poured herself a drink.
George O'Malley knew somewhere deep inside him that he'd fallen for that girl already. At the same time came the realization that she was probably going to break his heart.
Fuck love at first sight, he thought. But it was done: his destiny had been set and from that moment on his life would inevitably follow that fate.
If only he'd known what he was getting himself into…
