Kacxa Week 2018 Day 6

Cosmic Wolf Bath

A Splash of Loyalty

NOTE:

This was the toughest prompt to work on so far so apologies if this isn't that interesting. I just forced myself to come up with something as I did not want to miss posting for the day.

"What was that for?" Acxa asked angrily, her eyes narrowing at the cosmic wolf, while trying to squeeze out the excess water from her hair.

The creature looked back at her with a seemingly innocent expression, but she knew about his mischievous side. After all, he had just teleported them both into a pool of freezing water, in the middle of an uninhabited planet. It was shallow enough and they both clambered up to the nearby shore, soaked to the skin. The wolf shook the liquid from its fur while the cold and miserable Galra general tried her best to do the same.

"And I thought you and I were getting along so well," she said with a sigh as she struggled to wring more water out of her uniform.

She wasn't sure what to do next as currently the only means of transportation was a capricious canine. She could not afford to anger him, but she was also unsure of how she could appease him.

The wolf walked towards her carefully, sniffing at her, and looking at her intently. Acxa allowed him to do his investigation. She had only agreed to watch over him because Keith had asked her so suddenly and she did not have a chance to protest.

So now, there they both were, the wolf examining her scrupulously, as if trying to read her mind. And since it was a cosmic wolf, who knew? Telepathy might as well be one of its other abilities. But even without that skill, animals had pretty sharp instincts when it came to defending those they had chosen to be loyal to. So Acxa knew that there was no way that she could deceive this clever beast.

"I'm not going to betray him, you know," she told the wolf earnestly, though she was trembling slightly.

The wolf tilted his head and looked at her for what seemed like an eternity. Acxa held herself as she shivered some more, and, to her surprise, the wolf approached her and nuzzled her gently.

She smiled, in spite of herself, and held out a hand to pat the creature on the head. He did not pull away.

Then, in a flash, they had returned to the garrison, where Keith was waiting for them. The wolf gave a cheerful yelp, making the paladin smile. He then looked at the Galra general sheepishly.

Acxa looked at him suspiciously. "Was that a test, then?" she asked with a frown.

Keith gave a shrug and handed her a blanket. He noted that the wolf had not left Acxa's side and the Galra still had her hand on the wolf's head.

Acxa took the blanket and put it around her shoulders, grateful for the warmth it gave her. She had not imagined that the stoic paladin would have such a mischievous side to him. She would have to think of an interesting punishment for this prank later on.

"Well, how did I do?" she asked in a lighter tone.

"You passed with flying colors," Keith replied proudly, and the cosmic wolf yelped happily as further confirmation.
