Episode tag for 6x22 (a.k.a finale) A small story set just after the episode. Written in Abbott's point of view.
I was so excited after the finale that I just had to write this! Nothing special, just a little follow-up.
Enjoy!
Dennis Abbott drove alone to the Miami International Airport. Now that Lisbon had decided to go to DC there would be a lot more of these clean-up-after-Jane-moments. If only the man had not been such an idiot.
As he pulled over next to the Transportation Security Administration office and stepped out of the car he was surprised to see Lisbon and Jane exiting the building together. The other man was limping and leaning on her to walk.
Abbott watched them for a few seconds before walking towards them. The way they were looking and talking to each other told him what he wanted to know: they had patched things up. And they both looked so happy… He was glad.
"Good morning"
Jane and Lisbon were a both a bit surprised to see him. She was the first to answer: "Sir".
"Agent Lisbon, I thought you'd be in DC by now" Abbott's eyes had a wicked smile.
Lisbon looked a bit embarrassed but was quick to answer " Yes, well, change of plans."
"I see" Abbott looked at Jane, before continuing. "Did you get them to release the charges against Jane?"
"Well… no. You see… he broke their code of conduct during my interview with him and they were kind of upset."
"I had some help in that…" And they both looked at each other.
Abbott felt touched by their look of utter love. Still he tried keeping a stern face.
"And how is he out then?"
"I got them to release him to the FBI's custody. I was kind of hoping that maybe you could…"
Abbot interrupted "Yeah, yeah I'll fix it" Again he looked towards Jane. "What happened to your ankle? Did you kick him?"
This last question was addressed to Lisbon but Jane answered it. "No, I sprained my ankle. She didn't kick me, although I could tell she wanted to". He was smiling at Lisbon.
Abbott answered "You sure deserved it!"
Jane shrugged his shoulders in agreement.
Abbott then asked: "And how bad is the ankle? Doesn't seem too swollen."
Jane said: "Oh, it hurts a lot. I can barely walk."
Abbott noticed Lisbon's look of surprise. They all knew he was lying.
Jane pressed on: "In fact, I probably won't be able to fly. I'm going to have to take some sick days. I will need bed rest for at least a week."
Abbot couldn't help but smile. "Right. And as you are still in FBI custody…"
"Lisbon has to stay with me. Your know, to make sure I don't swim away to Cuba or something. We could stay in the Blue Bird Inn, all expenses paid by the FBI, of course."
Lisbon looked at Jane in disbelief.
Abbott laughed at this. Jane sure had a lot of nerve! But he had grown to like the man and he and Lisbon deserved a break.
Triying to sound serious he said: "How about I give you both one week off, pay for the plane tickets and you pay for the hotel yourselves?"
Jane answered: "Ok, but we could share a room, you know, just to save the tax payers money. I hear their honeymoon suite is lovely" This last remark was addressed directly at Lisbon, who blushed slightly and pretended to hit him "Jane!"
Abbott answered. "All right, you win. I don't care where you sleep or what you do. Just make sure to get back to work in a week's time".
Lisbon surprised Abbott by giving him a quick hug. "Thank you, sir."
Abbott then shook Jane's hand: "You better make sure you deserve her"
"I will"
Abbott then watched them walking together to their convertible.
He hoped that maybe now Jane would be easier to handle, but he knew better.
