"Sup John."
Oh. It's him. What's he doing around here?
"Nothing much, you?" Smooth, John. Real smooth.
"Nothing much either. This party sucks." Dave Strider replied. He then sat down next to you.
"It's not even a party. It's prom. And in prom, you're supposed to be out dancing and having fun and stuff."
"Well if that's what we're supposed to do in a prom, then why are you sitting here all alone, and by yourself?" Dave replied.
"I might be a wallflower."
"Might."
"Yeah."
Silence.
"So. Uh. Egderp. I have a question." He turned around, adjusted his shades and faced me.
"Shoot away,"
"What would you do if you well, liked, someone. And you wanted to ask them out for prom. But you're afraid they will deny. But you still really, really want to ask them to go to prom with you. Even just for a short dance. What would you do?" Dave asked. Dave. HE was asking me for relationship advice. I almost choked.
"Am I really the best person for you to consult here?" I scoffed. "But well, I would try and ask them nicely. I bet they'll accept. Since you know, you're cool. And everyone practically likes cool kids. You'll win them over 100%." I shrugged. I don't know what I'm saying, but It feels sort of right. I don't want to let my best friend down.
"Okay. So uh. Should I go ask them now?" Dave raised an eyebrow at me.
"Sure. I'll wait here."
Dave stood up, shuffled across the room, and returned to the small table which I was sitting at, sipping my punch.
"John. Will you dance with me. For, uh, prom."
I spat out my punch. "Is this a joke? I thought you were supposed to go ask the person you really liked for a dance?"
"See John, this is why I asked you. You're denying it."
"No! I mean... I am not a homosexual. I can't be dancing with another... guy." I exhaled. Shit, this isn't going well.
"Never mind. Forget it. At least I tried." Dave started to walk away when suddenly my hand shot out and grabbed his arm.
"I- Uh.."
"Gotcha." Dave smirked, and pulled me up from my chair.
"What are you doing-?"
He pulled me onto the dance floor, and we started to dance slowly. You know, those slow ballroom dances. The really romantic ones you see in movies. That.
"Shit, Dave!" I had to hold onto my glasses to prevent them from falling, from the pull.
"John. I am 99% sure that you are a homosexual. Just shut up and dance."
"...Fine."
After a while, the music stopped. Nobody seemed to care that I was dancing with Dave. Well, maybe it's because Rose was dancing with Kanaya, and Tavros was with Gamzee. It's not like we're the only homosexual dancers in this room.
"Heeeey Dave! You did it!" Jade rushed over from across the room to talk to us, dragging Karkat from behind.
"Ugh, Jade, slow down will you?"
"Yeah. I think I did." Dave replied to Jade. His smile was so wide that I think his face might rip into two. Why was he so happy... about this? I mean, It's not like I don't like Dave or anything...
"We'll be off now! Have fun guys!" Jade giggled and left, with Karkat swearing curse words behind her so loud that you could hear it from planet "fucking" Jupiter.
"So. John."
"...Yeah?"
"Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?" Dave asked. "Maybe some tacos and soda? My place?"
I paused, then smiled.
"Dave, I would like to have dinner with you every night."
