To Keep and to Cherish
"Rufus, it's ... exquisite. Thank you." Tseng examined the blade of the dagger that he had just drawn out of a blood red sheath trimmed with gold. The blade gleamed in the lamplight and the Wutaian moved under the light so he could better see the subtle, intricate carvings along the blade.
"Happy birthday, Tseng," Rufus said.
The dagger was obviously not meant to be an actual weapon but rather a work of art but even so it was perfectly balanced and sharply honed. Tseng noticed a mark on the metal next to the hilt and his mouth fell open. He looked up at the Shin-Ra President.
"Rufus this dagger is the work of the Morotai clan! They rarely make blades for outsiders, and only with the stipulation that the weapon remain in the family who has been given it. How in Gaia's name ...?"
The blond chuckled. "That would be telling. Don't worry it was quite legal. Let's just say I called in a few favors that were owed me."
Tseng bent over the blade again. Rufus was pleased that he had managed to chose a gift that was so obviously liked. The lamplight threw highlights onto Tseng's midnight black hair and Rufus couldn't help but run his fingers through the dark strands. Tseng lifted his head and smiled at the blond.
"I will cherish this, Rufus," he said softly.
Rufus nodded. "I hope that you didn't have plans for dinner as I've made reservations," he said dryly.
Tseng smirked. "I think my evening is open."
"I hope that your evening is open after dinner as well," The corner of Rufus' mouth twitched.
Tseng reached out and tipped the blond's chin up then lightly kissed his lips.
"Absolutely."
