Captain's Log: Stardate 40027.1. The Rutledge and the Minnehaha have responded to the distress call on Setlik III. According the Rutledge's CO, Captain Maxwell, it seems the distress call was sent out hours ago by the small team of Federation soldiers stationed here. The Rutledge fended off the Cardassians attack fleet that was in orbit and the Minnehaha arrived shortly after as reinforcement. Currently, the Rutledge and the Minnehaha are committing resources to rescue any survivors of the colony that were on this planet. This tragedy is horrific on a grand scale, even for the Cardassians.
The main city of Seltik III laid in rubble. Buildings that once stood tall were poked full of holes cut by the efficient weapons carried by the Cardassians. Disruptor burns covered the exteriors of buildings that remained, while bodies littered the streets. The putrid smell of decay and death seemed to overwhelm the senses, while the cries of children could be heard in the distance.
Bruce Wayne, Captain of the USS Minnehaha, stepped carefully over the smoldering wreck of what remained of a colony. Already his bright red uniform was caked in blood and his black hair covered in cement dust. The dust gave the Captain a pale complexion compared to his normally tanned skin. In his hand, a phaser rifle was poised to dispatch any threat. His steely eyes scanned the rubble for any signs of life however small.
Besides him dozens of Federation soldiers stepped alongside him. Medics, riflemen, officers, and anyone else willing was there aiding the search for life. Already the burnt remains of farms and houses have yielded no living persons. Death seemed to hang above this cursed colony. Those that escaped the massacre so far seemed to be the only survivors. There remained one last building left to check; the residence of Commander John Greyson.
From what Maxwell told Bruce, John Grayson was the Commander of the small contingent of soldiers stationed on Setlik III. A contingent so small, Bruce noted, that they were easily overrun by an invasion force of only a couple hundred of Cardassians.
So far Bruce and his team haven't discovered many survivors of the Starfleet Garrison. Hundreds of colonists and crewmen had been killed. Bruce was afraid of what he would find in John Grayson's quarters, if this pattern continued.
Bruce's line formation of soldiers continued towards the Greyson residence. One of the medics slightly behind Bruce spoke up with a tricorder, "Captain, I'm reading one life sign coming from the residence up head."
"Is it strong?" Bruce asked urgently.
"It seems so, sir." The medic replied closing the tricorder and shouldering her medical pack.
"Understood." Bruce responded, "Teams get ready to breach."
The line of soldiers split off and covered the entrances of the building with their phasers. Bruce took a position just behind the pointman, a man from the Rutledge named 'Miles'.
"Ready, sir." He whispered.
"Breach." Bruce ordered in a low tone.
At once the soldiers entered the house with weapons drawn. As they scanned the house a sort of misplaced sound filled their ears. It almost sounded like a cry for help.
Bruce lowered his weapon slightly as he moved towards the sound. As he drew closer and closer, the Captain realized what the sound was. To his dismay, Bruce entered another room and found the source.
"I need a medic in here." The Captain yelled down the hall, "There's a child here."
Before Bruce, laid a crib in the center of a nursery. The child, no older than a few months old, was crying. On the floor of the nursery, with a phaser in his hand, was nothing other than the body of John Grayson. Who died to protect his son, Richard Grayson.
/ Just a short beginning chapter to something I hope will become something much greater in the future. So I know that this chapter seemed a bit short, but that is because I wanted to set up the story that will be occurring. I promise that chapters after this will be bigger, I promise! Anyways Young Justice is back people!/
