Wuxi started out as a young dark-furred lion cub who lived with his mother in a major city. The two had it rough. Once the cub was caught stealing food, and he was given the name "Wuxi", which means "dirty mouse". It grew worse as the runt lion aged.
The teenaged Wuxi and his mother were attacked outside the city walls and left to die. They were discovered by a dragon, but by then, the lioness was gone, and her son was fading fast. In the Dragon Sanctuary, Pantera, the leader of the dragons, gave the dying lion a transfusion of his own dragon blood. Wuxi lived, but at a price: he would live longer and age slower than most of the smaller creatures were supposed to. He lived among the dragons for several years, training. He grew strong, but he still remained smaller than most lions his size.
After leaving the realm of the dragons, it was inevitable that he would cross paths with Master Oogway. With the dragons, Wuxi had learned to fight, but under the care and teachings of the wise, old tortoise, he learned kung fu. Soon, Wuxi became a master himself, and he had a palace built on a small island off the shore of China. As he sat meditating on his…meditation deck…one day, he had a vision and came up with the idea of what would come to be called "the Wuxi finger hold".
In the Shining Palace, as it came to be called, Wuxi taught a corrupt form of kung fu, in which only certain kinds of creatures may learn. These creatures were supposed to be superior in strength, cunning, and wit. This mindset survived until the time of the Dragon Warrior. Pantera watched his adopted son with worry. He could see a darkness made from pain and anger growing inside the lion, and the dragon took measures to prevent it from flourishing.
Pantera turned Wuxi into a panda, because the creature was seen by the lion as inferior and by the dragons as sacred. When Wuxi returned to the Shining Palace, his students didn't recognize him and turned him away. Hurt and enraged, he rampaged through the palace, leaving devastating property damage in his wake. As angry as he was, he couldn't bring himself to hurt his students.
As Wuxi sat meditating on his…meditation deck…he was approached by a lioness. Not only was she a student, she was his girlfriend. It was not until he had scared her away that Wuxi recognized her. He called out to her, but she kept running.
Pantera decided to start the second phase of his plan. He sent his youngest child, Aurea, out to the Shining Palace. Re fought Wuxi, trying to calm him down, but she was unsuccessful. Finally she used his own hold against him, regressing him to the body and mind of a cub. After a few days sleep, Wuxi woke up to meet his foster parents, Xu the white tiger and Tian Mi the panda.
Wuxi's memories were slowly returning, but there were things he would not remember for months, even years. As he adjusted to his new life, he also had to adjust to new powers as well. What would the future hold for the panda-lion cross?
