Officer

There was something about the police officer that was off.

He looked at Tamaki in a way that made Kyouya uncomfortable. The cop scanned the ID in his hand and then motioned for Tamaki to get out of the car. Kyouya immediately reached for the blonde as he went for the door handle and he held tight to Tamaki's thin wrist.

"Wait, something isn't right."

"I can't stay in here, it's an officer."

"I don't want you going out there. Stay with me." While he was speaking he reached across the blonde and in one graceful movement swiped the ID card and rolled up the window. He glanced back at the police cruiser and spoke quickly. "Drive. Now." The driver apparently more afraid of the young heir than the law slammed his foot on the gas and shot out of the parking lot.

"Kyouya! We can't do this! Go back! Go back!"

"No, the vehicle wasn't right, we're not going back."

"What do you mean the veh…" A swift hand gesture silenced the angry Frenchman and the rest of the car ride to the Ootori mansion was made in silence.

When they reached the house Kyouya quickly ushered the taller man into the large doors and proceeded to secure them tightly. The night continued on as any night would after Kyouya promised that his family would solve the misunderstanding that occurred in that parking lot.

That evening while Tamaki slept curled up next to Kyouya the dark haired boy solemnly watched the newest news alert,

'Blonde boy barely escapes with his life from suspected serial killer. New evidence points to the highway killer disguising himself as an officer of the law. Authorities are warning everyone to be wary of officers and request to see proper identification.'

Kyouya shut off the television before the gruesome details could cross the screen like the scores of a sports match. The rational part of his mind told him that Tamaki was safe and nothing had happened to him, his mind told him that he had reacted as he should have and just in time.

The panicked part of his thoughts forced his slightly trembling arms to press the blonde head to his shoulder and pull the taller boy closer with a hand to the small of his back.

He didn't sleep that night; he spent the hours before dawn breathing in the scent of the blonde hair and staring off into the dark trying to remember the precious thing he held was safe as long as he stayed with him.
